RE: the unofficial home of the dumas dauntless
Some of the aspects of filling certain gaps that required them tight, water-proof, and sandable. I used a automotive bondo, with fiberglass in it, and it is stainable, as well as paintable. It proved to be easy to work with, with a one minute window before un-manage ability. Very strong, easy to shape, and bonds to wood. But, I would listen to someone like Rich, that has been there, done that knowledge! By the way WhiteWolf, the saw should be well on it's way to you. Butch

RE: the unofficial home of the dumas dauntless
Hey Rich Boat is looking great! My old High School, American Legion, HHV, and Veterans had placed me in the running, for the USA Honor Society. And today I was called into the administration office, and was handed a Certificate of Recognition, and placed in the society, for my naval back ground, and service. I was speechless, and then I found out my wife, and two kids appointed me to be in the running as well. Also, if you type in the search bar-2009 veterans national creative arts festival, then scroll down to art gallery. Some pictures will pop up, at the bottom click ' more ', and you will see the tow truck that won me first place. Butch

Thank you Bruce, I love working with my hands, and love challenges. Will need to know what size prop you need, and pitch. From there I can formulate a very effective prop for your use. Butch

Hi Guy's Will start working some more on my boat Wednesday, for the eye doctors love to put the drops in one's eye's to enlarge the pupils. They are checking on my cadarac's, and so far they are starting to clear up some. Wednesday will start the rough in on the deck, and sides for the rail runners. Will take pictures of such, and post them for you all. Butch

easier starting in hot, cold, wet climates. cold and hot starting, engine runs better, cooler, faster, and smoother. Which all this, it makes the engine last longer, and it only takes a few minutes to install. The module is big as a quarter, and can be mounted anywhere, like the engine, the housing.

RE: 48
http://www.mfgsupply.com/m/c/31-8786.html Here is the link you need, and it is simple to install. Just cut the wire from the breaker points and splice the hot lead of the module to it, and the negative lead from the module to the side of the engine. With breakerless, just add the module hot lead to the kill switch lead, and the neg, to the engine side. It costs 12.00 dollars, with six dollar shipping. It does comes with full illustrations, and instructions. Butch

Lee, on RCU buy site listings, there is a gentleman that sells the electronic ignition. I do not need it on the John Deere Homelite, for it has the factory ignition. Important-I'am packing the box tonight with alot of good stuff for you, and it is going to the Post Office first thing Monday morning. Butch

RE: 48
Lee From what I know from my knowledge, yes they are very strong running engines. Properly maintained, and they will last a long time. I personally use a john deere 25cc homelite, that I received from a very good friend, named Tony. He also hooked me up with a 30cc of the same brand, and it's ten years old and still runs good. Lee, do yourself and your friend a big favor, and use top grade full synthetic two cycle oil, and high octane. Plus switch to either a e-3 sparkplug, or ngk. And if it does not have electronic ignition. Check out the buy sale, and for 19 dollars you can get one new, and well worth it. It's alot easier on start ups, and the motor will love you for it. Install brand new gas lines, for nothing worst then to do the first voyage, and have a line crack, and swim for it. Butch

RE: the unofficial home of the dumas dauntless
Rich All I can say is I really love what you have done with the paint job, on the boat. The lettering is fantastic, where did you get it done. I have the lettering for my boat, but it looks nothing like yours. I just put my lettering in a old file, and will forget it's there for now. My thing is, I want it right my way, and the printer did not the job right. I drafted a out a new design for each side of the deck, of how I will want it for the starboard, and port side where the deck rails will be. There is a new twist to mine, and I have filed a patent for it. For there is not another design like it on any boat. Your friend-Butch

RE: BUTCH'S BUILD LOG FOR DUMAS DEEP V60
Lee I bought some liquid Dura Liner Covering for pickup truck beds. I tested some on some wood, metal, and plastic, and let it dry. Then I submerged the parts in a can of gas, and it affect not what so ever. The fluid comes in different colors, so I use red, and filled the gas tank, let it sit for five minutes, then dumped it out. what I have, is a tank that will never rust out. Plus I will get some in gray, or white, and line the inner hull with it, gas, water, oil resistant hull. Butch PS-It works great for undercoating also, on any vehicle, car & truck! It's also super cheap at any auto store, spray or brush on.

Dear Captains Here is the picture of the gas tank mount, talked about earlier in this forum. Like I said before, it will hold the gas tank, a servo for the throttle, one servo for the emergency kill switch, and will hold the manual switch as well. Progressing right along, and Lee please start your build site in RCU. For we are all happy go lucky Captains, and will help when ever needed, Like when Rich-WhiteWolf-& Tony, plus many more helped me.

RE: BUTCH'S BUILD LOG FOR DUMAS DEEP V60
Thank You Lee But with the baffles inside the tank, and the several tests done by me, there is no need for the foam. The only thing did occur, was the vapor trying to escape, and it did it successfully through the built in vent. Butch The way the baffles was built, was a design made by me, with clear lexan, and shaking the unit with gas in it like in a boat.

RE: BUTCH'S BUILD LOG FOR DUMAS DEEP V60
Rich & Captains; I finally got the driveshaft, where it will free spin with no kinks, binds, or kick back. I took a solder brass driveshaft entender, and ran a drill threw it, and slid it over the flex shaft, to prevent the shaft from walking out, and provide a end play adjuster. Why I used the fitting coupler with a down radius, is to prevent any snagging onto anything, and clothing when true tuning. Butch

RE: BUTCH'S BUILD LOG FOR DUMAS DEEP V60
Thank You Rich My wife thinks I am to picky, when I do anything on my own. But this is me, and I love to be different than everybody else. I finished the mount for the gas tank, kill switch servo, and manual switch. There will be another switch on the first deck as well, so just in case anything that could go wrong, will be prevented. I will wire it up as a three way with the two manual switches. So one can over ride the other, like in a stairway light. If you shut off the light downstairs, some one can turn it back on upstairs. Butch-It's a very gorgeous day!

RE: BUTCH'S BUILD LOG FOR DUMAS DEEP V60
Good Friends I finished a different gas tank today for my boat, for the plastic just did not suit me. I bought some scrap stainless steel, and tubing and went to work on constructing a last tank. The biggest problem with model tank, is fuel will splash around, and some time the vapor will push gas out, flood the engine, stall it, or the worst is fire. So, I went a junk yard run and spotted a ford gas tank, and drew how they had there baffles inside it. Then I designed my own baffles, where gas will slash around inside, but very limited. I put a tube at the top to fit a rubber line on it and it will lead to the first deck, with a built in vent. I took me a while to heat the stainless, to be able to bend it desired shape. Then I silver soldered the tank together, and pressured checked it, and I was very pleased with the final results. I forgot to mention, that the two gas lines that go to the carb, has a stainless screen sock, to prevent any debri getting to the carb. And of course, I will use a inline gas filter. The pictures are below-Butch

RE: BUTCH'S BUILD LOG FOR DUMAS DEEP V60
Here is some pictures of the keel that was done with several layers of wood, and then I encased it with good quality basswood plywood, then the whole keel was water proofed. When I glued on my bottom part of the hull, I inserted a 1/8 metal rods, and took them out after the glue was dry. For this simple reason, boats get wet, and time to time. Water will get into the hull, and I have a bilge pump, but it cannot really get all the water out, if there is a blockage between rib sections, and bulk heads. This way, all the water will go aft, and get pumped out, for a simple solution.

RE: BUTCH'S BUILD LOG FOR DUMAS DEEP V60
Thanks Captains, I still a long way to go, but one day at a time will show vast results. Just a little note, when I built my keel, instead of one piece. I used four layers of plywood to construct my keel, and then I encased it with high quality basswood, then waterproofed it.

RE: BUTCH'S BUILD LOG FOR DUMAS DEEP V60
Captains I started to sand to fit the bottom portion of the piece I just put on. I always add extra wood, so it it is exact fit, and shape I want. I then apply water proof Elmer exterior to the joint, and when the piece as a whole is finished, I apply marine epoxy inside and out to the entire piece. Once the hull is completely done, I will make up a large batch of fiberglass resin, and put it on with a roller, and a brush in tight areas. Then wet sand with 400, then to 600, and finally with 800. Then start spraying marine spar, and wet sand between coats. But with this project, after I do the painting, I will send the whole boat by me, to 430 miles away to Frederick, Michigan. There is a factory there, that does laminate wood with pictures on it with a special clear coat that is thick, and resistant to all man made chemicals, and mother nature, and a satin finish. I want this project to be passed on to my son, and his son, and so forth. Butch
