Canadair CT114 solo aerobatics
Hi there, I'm one of those people who would rather watch solo aerobatics, not 6 or 8 airplanes glued together which I find boring. I used to watch Canadair Tutors doing aerobatics at CFB MooseJaw Does anybody have video clips of just one Tutor flying? I tried youtube Pleaseno Snowbirds

Career pilots that were model flyers
I wonder if there are any accidents stats on pilots who were active model flyers in their youth. I'll bet you will find that they have a good record, for instance, Burt Rutan and Neil Armstrong. Maybe it is because they found out all they wanted to know about crashing from model flying ! Another thing, I'll bet that pilots in general have fewer car accidentsfrom their superior judgement of distance and momentum.

RE: cant play back renamed photos
Thanks for that, my biggest issue is with video clips, I cant always tell what they are by the thumbnail shot. Maybe I should save them to Desktop and then give them a name, but some of them are 10 minutes long and wouldnt that take up a lot of HD space?

cant play back renamed photos
When I bring up my photos from my HP 437 in Windows Media Player, I sometimes rename them, but when I put the SD card back in the camera, these same pictures are not offered on the camera for viewing. I tried moving them to the DCIM file and WMP allowed that, but still wont play in the camera ??? Would appreciate any suggestions

Scale Motor Scooters
Does anybody build scale scooters, like the Vespa, Honda Dream, or the Mopeds? You never see plastic kits of these, and certaily not functioning RC models. I have always liked scooters, does anybody know of any kit companies? I have seen some Tamiya kits on ebay, but scarce, and expensive I'd especially like a model of the Honda 50 Cub, or some drawings so I could make my own

Use for surplus T-37
There must be surplus Cessna T-37 trainers available for civilians. Here's what I would try Take out the ejection seats to save weight. Add 6 ft to each wingtip (there's a huge stabilizer on this airplane, so it would be stable) When finished, take off and head out over the mountians and get into wave lift. One engine throttled back would be enough for staying in the lift zone. I dont think this is wacko because the T-37 is a very clean airplane A P38 once flew in wave lift

RE: Coming to grips with one's vision
As I get older, my eyes wont let me fly weird airplanes. Flying wings, and delta-wing models are hard on the eyes to fly because of orientation. Shoulder wing models are bad too. The years prejudice the eyes as to what an airplane should look like I stick to high wing old timer cabin jobs as befits my age,or, better yet, biplanes.

Drilling out threaded rod
I want to drill out small lengths of 3/16" threaded rod to fit over axles about the thickness of coat hanger wire. (making home-made wheels) Even if I had a drill press, that would seem like a tricky job. Is there a product, or something like it you can buy?

Speared through the fuselage
This is a Goldberg Anniversary J3 Cub with an Enya .09 that I take the prop off once in awhile to fly slope. I left out over half the kit wood in the construction, so the model is very light, and goes great on the slope. I landed very nicely on the beach and was just rolling to a stop when that piece of driftwood neatly speared through. I didnt even break the pushrods Repair took an hour. That orange spot behind the windshield is a whistle from a dollar- store toy that gives a nice screech in a dive. Yes, the wing decal is on the wrong wing!

Lockheed U2 from Tyco parts
Hey, lets hear from the bashers I stripped the guts out of a Tyco Skyforce model The U2 is about 30" span and has real character. It steers ok but slowly and has a tremendous glide, so I put my name on it and 20$ reward The wings and fuselage are 5 mm depron, and the tail surfaces are 1 mm (foam plates) I found that angling the motors inward increases manueverability, I bought up all the Tyco Skyforce I could find after solving the range problem, and now have 6 original designs plus some rubber power models that were dug out of storage and forced back into the air with motors glued to the wings The motors are invisible in flight

Pusher motors on Micro electric model
I scratch build micro electric models using the 2-engines from RTF models. ( differential throttle for steering method) I have been converting these motors to "pullers" and mounting them on the wing lead-edge;as opposed the trailing edge as they are out of the box. I do it this way to get the center of gravity far enough forward, but have found these models do not turn nearly as quick as the RTF models. Are motors at the back are more effective for turning? Or is it because my models have proper wing airfoils? Do you get more thrust with the motors at the trailing edge?

Deadstick Boeing 777, Heathrow
The deadstick landing a British Airways Boeing 777 pulled off a few days ago, makes one wonder if they shouldnt put Flight Engineers back in these birds, and take out 50% of the computers. An Air Canada Boeing 757 that ran out of gas in 1983, and the Transat Airbus that deadsticked into the Azores come to mind.

RE: Carving airfoil on depron
Why? To get an airfoil so the airplane doesnt fly like a manhole lid. 5mm is a nice medium almost like 3/16 balsa I used a new utility knife and am getting the hang of it, the shavings cling to everything and the sandpaper fills up.

I have some 5 mm depron that I want to carve a proper airfoil for a Micro electric model I tried a heat iron and a sharp blade, and sanding block. The trailing edge is the toughest I was thinking of a block with a blade attached at the proper angle But there must be better ways??

Airline pilot shortage
Reports in the media tell of a serious pilot shortage, causing delays, even danger. A case of some very tired chickens coming home to roost. A series of fruitcake lawsuits starting in the 70's put companies like Cessna on the rocks, and put the cost of flight instruction through the roof. This kept a lot of young guys from getting into aviation.

RE: My Dad's 75th Birthday
My dad bought a Cox Piper Cub RTF back on the farm in the early 50's for me and my brother. We didnt have a dry cell for starting, so we borrowed the Eveready battery from our crank-type telephone, but it didnt have enough power left, so next step was bring the battery from the tractor. That did the trick, I can still hear the crack of the Baby Bee in the back kitchen, the dog started howling. Of course that was it for the glo plug, and we were never able to start the Cox again, but flew the model deadstick with the lines threaded through a fishing rod.

flat plate airfoils
Has anybody else noticed that its useless trying to get a good test glide with the micro models that have a flat depron wing? You have a choice of left or right spiral, I'm an experienced model builder, and find this interesting, because the models fly well under power. Maybe its because under power the wing is held at a sufficient angle of attack

Is there some way to decrease the file size of a jpg from my digital camera? The CD software that came with the camera I cant use because it is not compatible with Win 2000 I use a little card reader to transfer the photos which works fine but all photos are 700k or more I tried various methods and regardless if I crop the picture, the file size stays the same There is nothing in the camera menu to decrease the resolution. What to do?

How's everybody with Tyco Skyforce?
There were threads a while back about these that fizzled out. Maybe everybody's like me too busy flying the models. I have the bipe and the fighter and must a couple of hours flight time on each with no major problems. I've thought of making my own balsa versions, but dont think balsa would stand up to the crashes and damp grass. One thing mandatory is doubling the Rx antennae. Also the 49 hz has no range problems. If you want 49 hz, take the Tx out of the box at the store and check, it could be 27, or it could be the other way around. I put landing gear on the fighter and works great, I used old servo gears for wheels! The local Walmart still has lots of these, will watch for them to go on sale. In 50 years of model building, I've never seen so much fun for so little money!
