RE: The Evader Coalition ~ T.E.C. Part 2.
I would like to get a little more top speed...can someone recommend a pinion/spur combination that would still work with a all stock setup?

RE: The Evader Coalition ~ T.E.C. Part 2.
The rear chassis plate was getting really scraped up and the rear suspension was way too soft. It turns out the oil had completely leaked out of one rear shocks and halfway out of the other rear shock. The shocks look fine and seem to function normally...don't know how/why the oil leaked out.

Is there anything tricky about installing CV shafts on my EXT? Are any springs used in conjunction with these shafts? Do I have to change any other parts like the differential output shafts?

RE: The Evader Coalition ~ T.E.C. Part 2.
Just wondering... I have an Evader EXT. I recently bought and installed the ball bearing set upgrade. Of the 14 new bearings, I installed 10. I did not mess with the bushing at the end of the drive shaft because I couldn't figure out how to get it out without causing damage. I also did not replace the two bushings at the spur gear because I does not appear that I have the same size bearings left over (4 out of the pkg. of 14). Can someone tell me if I did something wrong...should I have been able to use up all 14 new bearings? Thanks, Tim
ORIGINAL: DaveFlynn If you power it up with the switch already ON, does it work? If it does, then you have found one of the ESC's that goes into ''safe-mode'' if it doesn't see a signal at power-up. Dave
No it doesn't.

Kill Switch Between ESC and Rx- Need Help!
I installed an on/off switch between my esc and the receiver. Problem is that the esc. won't arm now, but there is sufficient power coming through the circuit to allow the receiver to bind, and all control surfaces to move, just the esc won't arm and thus no motor movement. When I remove the on/off switch and plug the esc directly into the receiver, everything works as you would expect. When I put the kill switch back in line between esc and rv., same problem. I'm even tried two other switches to see if the problem is the switch was defective, but the same result as described above. I used to use an esc from E-Flite that had a on/off switch wired into the esc already, but this bit the dust in a crash. So I'm using a brand new esc made by Hobbywing, but this did not have an on/off switch. The receiver I'm using is a Spetrum AR500. Am I doing something wrong?? Please help me. Is there a way to use a 'kill' switch with my new esc.? I don't won't to have to buy the E-Flite esc. again just for the kill switch feature. Thanks, Tim

RE: SIG Balancer
ORIGINAL: jimmyjames213 i dont understand the point of a a balancer, unless you are balancing a very sensitive airplane and even then. the majority of the balancing should be happening at the field. set your plane around the manufacture c.g. then go to the field and fly the plane. pull up at a 45 degree angle and roll inverted. if the plane falls its nose heavy, if it climbs its tail heavy. then add sticky weights at the field till it flies how you like it. when you get back home move components around to counteract for the sticky weights then take em off. i guess you could use a balancer for the measure c.g. then take sticky weights off and move stuff around part, i just use my fingers what ever floats your boat
Well, since I've only been in this hobby for two years now, I'm using the balancer to initially check COG. Frankly, your method makes sense and I'm only wondering why I have'nt read that before! Good tip, that one is going in the ol' memory bank. Tim

RE: SIG Balancer
Hey guys, I too bought this balancer and have a couple of issues. First of all, the holes for the rods are too small so I assume that I'll have to slightly enlarge them, or maybe put wax on the rods ?? Next, I too broke one of the arms and one of the pointers...and I was not being careless! Does anyone know if Sig will replace these? I also noticed that my kit is slightly different as compared to the pictures on the box. Seems like for $40 alot of the assembly should have already been done.

Anybody do the power up upgrades from Traxxas? Do they save you any money or would it be worth it to buy retail then sell the stock parts on RCU or RCG?

Hi All. Can someone recommend a decent but reasonably priced tire? My son and I have been having fun running the EXT on the street and sidewalk so far (no off road stuff yet), however the rear tires already look really worn. I guess that I'm looking for a tire that will wear well for asphalt. If you have a link for them that would be great. Thank you, Tim
ORIGINAL: Aimlessone
ORIGINAL: whitehawk Dumb question I'm sure, but how to you set the gear mesh? Also, you're recommending the 18 tooth pinion, right? I assume that this would also work with the same stock spur gear? Thanks, Tim
As long as the pinion gear is also 48 pitch it will work. 48 pitch gears work with other 48 pitch gears, 32P works with 32P, etc

RE: The Evader Coalition - T.E.C.
ORIGINAL: Aimlessone You may have chewed up the spur gear, but try setting the proper gear mesh first and make sure the motor screws are tight. If that doesn't help then you'll have to get a new spur gear of the same size (88 tooth 48 pitch). Edit: The pinion gear is the one attached to the motor, the spur is attached to the slipper clutch. The EXT is also over-geared from the factory so I suggest getting a 18 tooth pinion as well. The Photon Speed 2 motor runs very hot with a 20 tooth pinion.
Dumb question I'm sure, but how to you set the gear mesh? Also, you're recommending the 18 tooth pinion, right? I assume that this would also work with the same stock spur gear? Thanks, Tim

RE: The Evader Coalition - T.E.C.
I have a new EXT with only about 6 batt. packs through it. After one cartwheel crash, which didn't look bad at all, the motor kinda squeeled when given throttle. I noticed that when I picked the truck up and gave it throttle, there was no unusual noise. But when I set it down it would run fine for about 10' or so and then start making the noise again. After closer examination I noticed that when I pushed slightly down on the vehicle and then gave it throttle, essentially preventing the rear wheels from turning, the noise instantly appeared and the pinion? gear spun freely without engaging the spur? gear. When I looked at the clear plastic housing around the spur? gear, I noticed what kinda looked like black dust, and the pinion? gear and spur? gear look slightly worn - like maybe the teeth on one or both of the gears are chewed up a little. Any idea on how to fix this? Any help is appreciated as I'm a noob. Regards, Tim
