RE: Futaba T8U Transmitter
You're right, Les. I don't even have my 8U anymore and I still kept the book. It's a very good source of Futaba xmtr info. Jesse

RE: 120 SR intermittent yaw
Thanks Doug. I never thought about the motor itself. The tail rotor does keep spinning when it goes haywire, but the tail will go hunting on its own or sometimes will pirouette completely. I'll try the tail motor first, as it's the cheaper of the two! Jesse

RE: Futaba T8U Transmitter
Are you trying to set up the flaps to drop with a switch instead of using the knob? If so, it can be done, but it's a rather complicated "offset" pmix. It's described in Don Edberg's book on the 8U, page 7-19, but if you don't have the book, and it's the flaps you want to control with the switch, I can describe the programming steps here in detail. Electric C5?
Is it remotely possible to convert a Caliber 5 to electric? I have one new in the box that I'm getting ready to build, including a new in the box OS .50 non-hyper, but I guarantee you that I would be the only nitro heli flyer at my club! Seems everyone is flying electric now, and I can understand why, with the trouble of tuning a tempermental nitro engine, and the cost of nitro fuel. I would love to convert it to electric, so is there anyone that has attempted such a conversion? On the other hand, if I leave it as a nitro, I can tune really rich, and send a good smoke screen to the fixed-wing flyers down wind!!... just a thought! [;)] Jesse

120 SR intermittent yaw
Hi all, I have a Blade 120SR that's about 2 years old. It has flown fine all of this time with a few contacts with a wall or floor. Recently, the tail will yaw uncommanded as though the gyro has disconnected, for a few seconds and then it returns to normal, locked and controllable. Is there any adjustments to the gyro gain? Or is it just time for a new 5-in-1 board? It is the RTF version with the original MLP4DSM transmitter. Jesse

RE: Flyzone FW 190 pilot
bigtim, I'll try and fly it this weekend, but it's been crazy windy around here. Steady winds of 20 mph with gusts to 40! Not sure I would like to do a maiden flight like that, but Sunday looks a little calmer. I'll come back on here with a post-maiden report and tell all. Jesse

Flyzone FW 190 pilot
Here are a few shots of a full-figured pilot I recruited to fly my Butcher Bird. I used a Sam Fisher action figure from the Tom Clancy Splinter Cell series and converted him to Luftwaffe duty. I simply painted his shirt and made the accessories he's wearing from scratch. The helmet is a finger tip cut off of a neoprene glove, the life jacket is a piece of yellow latex glove and the parachute harness is fiberglass tape and plastic styrene cut to shape. He'll do just fine, in spite of his weight, but as this plane needs some tail weight anyway, he should be ok. Also included some pics of the minor mods I made to the plane itself. Added the swastika to the tail, painted the wing root areas, as I didn't like the light blue paint in these areas, removed the "tape" frame from the canopy and painted the frame, then lightly sprayed the whole plane with a clear flat finish to dull out the decals a bit. We'll see how she flys. Jesse

Has anyone tried, or is willing to try, some of this?: http://trufuel50.com/Default.aspx There's one comment in the testimonials section of it being used in his "RC gas planes". The cost is prohibitive, at around $6 a quart, but I'm wondering if this could be a alternative to pump gas and oil mix? Jesse

Krylon makes a "camo" paint for painting outdoor gear that approximates a dark olive drab. It's what's on this Top Flite giant P-47.

RE: Another arf front cover
It's like this: I want to buy a house, I buy one that's already put together. I don't have a desire to build one. Same goes with my car. I buy one that's already built. No desire to build one. If a company started selling completely-built, 100% ready to fly, turn-key giant scale R/C warbirds, just gas and go, that would be all that I would buy. I HAVE NO DESIRE TO BUILD ONE! Imagine if all the planes that Boeing sold were kits! The airlines would never have a airworthy fleet to fly! [X(] Nothing wrong with building, just as there is nothing wrong with ARFs. I've seen my share of bad ARFs as well as some pretty badly built kits. To each their own... Jesse

RE: Switch from NiMH to Lipo
According to a review of this plane, a 5s 3200mah lipo is what's recommended. It would depend on what ESC is in the plane. You have to be able to set up the battery cut off voltage on the ESC correctly to not over-discharge the lipo. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=748219 Jesse

RE: Evolution radial engine?
It's about $800 cheaper than the best selling one, (RCS by Moki), in the same displacement class, so it might sell well if the quality and reliability is there. This one's made in India, so only time will tell if it's a good one. Jesse

EasyTiger's giant scale corsair
I like the looks of this model, and the fact that it's a "bird cage" canopy version, but not with the later, Korean-era markings. The bird cage corsairs were some of the earliest models, the first ones pre-dating the stars and bars markings. Still a good-looking bird. Comments? Jesse

RE: what are you allergic to?
I'm allergic to CA adhesives. It puts a damper on my building, as I either have to wear a respirator or use some other form of glue. The CA gives me a upper respiratory reaction similar to hay fever. Also, mildly allergic to ragweed and mesquite tree pollen. Jesse

Never mind, I got it! I was sticking the needle in too far and covering up the side hole from the inside. I just need to stick the needle in a bit and then it will push air through. Thanks everyone. Jesse

RE: World Models inflatable tires
Not sure what's going on with this setup. The needle will fit but pretty tight. After insertion, there's no air moving through the valve. I opened up the tire and this is what the valve looks like. There is a rubber sleeve over the plastic valve, covering a hole in the side of the valve. Blowing through the external valve hole, air does not go through. Not sure what to make of this. It almost looks like I need a large amount of pressure to force air through the side hole and through the silicone sleeve. Never seen anything like it. Any ideas? Jesse

World Models inflatable tires
Is anyone using inflatable tires from The World Models? I got a set of 5" wheels for my Top Flight giant P-47, but not sure what to use to inflate them. The valves on the tires appear to be made of the same hard plastic the wheels are made of, but they did not come with a fitting to inflate them with. Looking at the pic, you guys think a regular needle for inflating footballs would work? They are great quality wheels, but would need a bit of air in them to support the weight of the plane. Jesse
