RE: t-rex 450 v2 with walkera 60 electronics
you're crazy if you do it

RE: Before I make the plunge
you definitely don't need all the carbon fibre fancy parts for the trex to fly well but having the metal head and a decent gyro certainly helps when it comes to mild stunts/3D. I would suggest getting a trex clone so you can have all the metal head/tail parts aswell for a similar price to the XL, and so you would have more meny to spend on other parts. I do a little 3d with my all aluminium trex using the cheap align pro wooden blades and its steady as a rock and more than responsive enough for tricks. Edit: I just noticed you're from Aus, if you're interested you can get the CopterX450 Kit here for $205 http://electricrc.com.au/store/

i use my dx6 with realflight and it made a huge difference for me using the remote i fly with. Its probably the next bext thing to using the sim.

RE: Non Align Head options
ive got a copterX450 and compared it with the align 450 metal head and there is very little difference between them. The quality is basically the same, certainly not worth the extra $200 or whatever for the align stuff.

RE: ALign Motors Junk or Good
i thought the align ones seemed pretty decent, i helped a friend build a trex with one of the 3550kv motors and its got plenty of power with the 35a esc and hes been using it regularly for about 5months now and its been through a few hard crashes and its still going strong, so maybe you were unlucky or maybe some of their motors are built better than others.

RE: T-REX SE V2 Auto problem.
has it always done this or have you had it flying without the tail kicking out? does the gyro stay in the same mode when you fick the throttle switch?. The tail will always kick out from the torque effect when you kill the throttle, but the gyro should be able to stop most of it. Check all the tail linkages are smooth and check that autorotaion gear is spinning freely so theres no unneccesary drag from anything when you flick the switch

i didnt have to cut any plastic to fit mine in,they were perfect. perhaps your blade grips got sqeezed together a bit from when your carbon blades were on?

RE: I think I stuffed my brand new air thunder lipo
have u got a voltmeter? Check all the wiring down the the actual cells and you will probably find a broken connection. I had a simialr problem after i shorted one of my lipos. All that happened was the power from the short had snapped one of the connection tabs that comes out of one of the lipo cells and it just needed resoldering onto the circuit board. I would hope something similar has happened to you, i dont think a quick short destroys these batteries.

RE: Pitch reversed
you could also swap the ail and aux plugs on the reciever then you might also have to reverse them on the radio.

RE: DX6i - limitations?
The DX6i would be a good choice and its only about $240 here in Aus at RChobbies.com.au . If you ever do get into nitro helis then the thought of having to pay for a new radio shouldnt bother you after you price up the heli. Theres no need for the extra channell on a 450 electric.

RE: New (used) 450SE-V1 owner.
i wouldnt put any more effort into the walkera. Ive been down the same road as you and the sooner you ditch the 60 and focus on the trex the better. I would sell the walkera and put the cash from it into your trex.

RE: Inverted hover + nerves = FAIL
i did something similar the other day, i was practicing backflips and came down to low inverted and landed it upside down. This actually doesnt seem like a bad way to land it in an emergency. I fixed the broken servo gear and was back out doing flips in 5 mins. These helis are so tough.

RE: Programming an Align 35 amp ESC
"Can the Align 35 Amp ESC be programmed with just the ESC plugged into the receiver?" Yes it can, but programming this wont help with setting up the servos. The esc only controls the motor and acts as a power source only for the servos. Someone here should be able to direct you to a manual for the ESC what radio gear are you using? Was it setup at all when you bought it? The channels on the receiver should be labeled with stuff like RUD, AIL, ELE, etc. depending on your radio. The servos from your cyclic go in the ELE, AIL and AUX, but it might be different on your radio. You will just need to keep putting in one at a time until it moves in the right direction for both aileron and elevator controls. For now i think you should keep the motor unplugged from the ESC to avoid accidental startup since this wont affect any of the other controls.

RE: Am i ready to begin some 3D stuff?
i feel like im on the same kind of level as you magimat. I just got my trex all set up how i want it and im very comfortable with it now and im considering trying some backflips soon to start with because they seem quite easy to do on the simulator. Dont forget to keep some altitude so if you screw up you have a chance to recover, and check your thottle pitch curves for 3d.

RE: Do you get that locked in feel?
ive just recently got a trex and have put sg90 servos on cyclic and tail and it feels great, to me these servos feel a little bit more 'locked in' than a few other different brand/size micro servos ive used in a couple of other helis. Its probably your mechanical setup is a bit off. I cant compare to the hitec servos tho.

RE: Headspeed can kill.
i know exaclty what you mean, these heli's are very cheap and with the speed the blades go on these, a heli is the last thing you want to be skimping on quality, ive had a pair of cheap blades snap and im lucky i didnt get hit. My WK60 is constantly falling apart to the point where im not going to bother with it anymore and just get rid of it cause it might self destruct mid air, not to mention the cost of parts just to keep it flyable. I tried some slightly larger blades on it that were a bit heavier than what id been using and after a very short hover it all went wrong, im not exactly sure what happened but the blades went out of track for no reason, and the metal head has started to loosen up and wobble in places where it just shouldnt, so the heavier blades must have started pulling it apart. After seeing a trex450 for the first time, i see that the quality on the walkeras is shameful and not worth the bother. I have spent so much money repairing my walkera without having even crashed it, the trex just keeps going and going without any sign of wear.

RE: walkera or century?
Ive got the walkera 60 and although it flys fine, they seem to break and wear out very quickly just from normal use, most notably the crappy frame, so u might be better off buying a decent quality heli that is built to last, not to be as cheap as possible. Ive had to fix my frame many times and it hasnt even been crashed or flown hard, it just eventually breaks from the stress of hovering.

RE: Walkera #60B Fully Upgraded
theyre an alright helicopter. Mines been going strong for a while now and havent had any real problems as long as its set up properly. Its cheap to repair when youre learning, but ive found now im getting much better at flying something a bit better quality would be better.

xero, ive had that same motor problem, and i tried 3 different esc's with the motor and i still had the problem. Im not 100% sure but i would say that the motor is damaged.

RE: cooking the motor
the motor and/or esc are probably faulty, if its brand new you could probably get them replaced, but i think the walkera electrics are pretty crap, i would just buy another brushless motor and esc off ebay, they can be found for pretty cheap.

RE: Which 2.4Ghz Radio for Walkera 3D Heli?
The DX6 would be fine, unless youre going to be using large petrol planes, and its a lot cheaper than the dx7. But its fine for parkflyers. I cant comment on the futaba.
