RE: HPI Savage 4.6 recommendation
It wont crack and leak, it also looks way cool if your into that kind of thing. BUT, IMO totally unnecessary for the Savage as it carries the tank up high and generally out of harms way. If its bigger the only advantage would be longer run times. I dont have any shelf queens so no purty tanks for me. I run em till they go boom, rebuild and repeat.

RE: newbie jato help
Absolutely they will affect temp. Like the man said, run it awhile till warm, then tune away. I very rarely have to mess with low speed adjustments. I like to get idle and high speed done and see what happens. Low speed adjustments should be small, like an eighth of a turn one way or the other. Try that and see, you'll get the hang of it, be patient and go small. Best of luck.

RE: Bulletproof diffs now NO wheelies..
How about the slipper clutch? Have you tried to tighten it down a bit? With the drag created by the new diffs and fluid, it could be slipping just a bit. Crank it in a turn or two and give it a whirl.

Just finished my Sav .25 / XL hybrid axle, diff and shock build. Wider than ever with wide axles and wide wheels. Gonna finish up my version of the sway bars Ive built. Odd that HPI just announced they have them for the XL. Guess good ideas never get old. haha, MAYBE Iam a super genius................................

I agree with T-bird. CB and shoes, as well as spare nuts and bolts. The truck is tough so you'll figure out what you need after you break it! Oh ya r5 I find last a bit longer. Have no idea why though............................best of luck. Loads of good folks here with great info.

RE: Savage sway bar set. HPI part # 102538
Well, its interesting that HPI has come up with these as I was working on making them for my old Sav .25 !! They may not be made for it but Iam sure you could modify the bulkhead area to fit them to an older truck. I have modified my .25 to fit XL diffs and running gear to include wide axles. BTW, I used to love the cartoon of CAPTAIN CAVEMAN!! You need an avatar dude. Maybe a pic of your uhhhh...................club? HEHE

So not to beat a dead horse but, the HPI part and the Axial part SHOULD be interchangeable? I have an Axial .28 and the HPI part is cheaper. Need to save as much as possible cause Iam currently laid off from work. Please advise, Thankyou much.

Yes, it replaces the pullstart with a new back plate and drive unit to use the roto start. Save the pullstarter if its not already broke so you have it in case the roto system goes out. Best of luck.

RE: HPI MT2 breaking differential
Well that is one reason. You may want to shim the bevel gears in it and stuff it full of greas while your at it. I have a few HPI vehicles that all came the same way. Bad shimming and dry as a bone. I broke one and then started to do the rebuild and now Iam yet to break another. (knock wood) Have three gallons of fuel on the one I first broke so, it works. Best of luck.

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
CBR6FS, I had the same problem. In an earlier reply I tried to say you need to put the rubber o-ring in the collar first. It acts as the threads would normally. I dont know if HPI intended to use them this way but it works. The rubber o-ring Im talking about is the one at the top of the shock you posted a pic of. Put that o-ring in the collar and then thread it on the shock body. Ive done this on both my Storms and they have yet to fail. I had bought all my ali parts off of ebay or from Newera and the only gripe I had was the rear arms needed ground out with a Dremel tool so the dog bone would clear the crossmember. If you like I'll get a pic and try to post it. You are correct about the plastic parts. They work well and weigh about the same as the ali parts. Of course they are flexible so they bend and dont usually break. My # 1 truck has all the ali parts and I run it on the street exclusively. The #2 truck is the offroader and Im keeping it stock as far as the plastic is concerned save for the shocks. The Savage is going to get a few things here and there but nothing shiny as I bash that one and generally cause havoc in my neighborhood with it. NO ONE or NOTHING is immune to being chased down and run over with it. I have actually run down a groundhog in my yard with it and it does a fine job with stray cats as well.

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
Well at least someone is making more stuff for the 'Storm. Might prod others into doing the same. Was looking at the ali bulkhead, interesting but would bend instead of break like the plastic does. Guess if you had a shelf queen it would be the ticket. Id like to see somebody make these parts in titanium. The cost would kill it but that would be something. While I agree that they make nice tools, I have stripped out a 4mm hex wrench twice. They did replace it but I still try to use it only when absolutely necessary. Wasnt the tip that stripped but the handle. ROB, you are correct on your theory to keep the heat down. It kills just about everything. (heat) Batteries, motors, esc and its connections. As well as your run time. I would buy Venoms setup with the motor, esc and battery. At the local hs he had it for sale for 125 to go right in the E Strom. 3800kv IIRC. I worry that if I went electric I wouldnt come back to nitro, which would mean Id have to sell off all my nitro stuff. The electric have a wonderful torque curve. Like a rheostat if you will. But, I suspect you know that already.

NitroROB, Ive seen an electric roller on ebay. As for motors and controls, Venom is about the best there is. (maybe the only) I think they have quite a few different setups that would definately get it done. I have seen a stock ele 'Storm at the track, it kept up rather well against the other 1/10 scale stadium trucks.

JUBE, you are misunderstanding what Im saying. I LOVE THE FACT THAT PEOPLE CAN MEET HERE FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD!!! I want HPI to keep supporting us with a sponsorship the RC Universe. They have dropped their sponsorship here. I said that I thought it was because they went to Twitter. I was saying they have it on their website they Twitter, but now dont sponsor RC Universe a place where people like you and me can talk and swap ideas about their products. I dont have any problems with you being from Argetina so please dont think that at all. Iam very grateful to talk to ANYONE from ANYWHERE about the hobby I love so much. Iam mad at HPI thats all. I cant understand why they stopped sponsoring here.

RE: whats up with my engine
Okay, first off how old is it? How much fuel has been through it? Why pull off the line to get fuel to the carb, why not cover exhaust and crank then get fuel to motor. If its sat for awhile with fuel in the tank, it may have gummed up the filter/pickup in the tank. How is the compression? Can you lift the truck off the groung by just pulling up on the start handle?

Good point ROB. I guess you are correct in the feeling that we are all guests and I wholeheartedly agree in standing by forum rules whatever they may be. I stand by my right to be peeved at HPI for letting go of sponsorship for whatever reason they have. It just irks me to no end to have such a fine place as this and then go with twitter. I can understand BOTH but, not here? Im not seeing the whole picture obviously. Its just MY OPINION that they left here to twitter. (may not be fact) Like I stated before, loads of folks from around the globe right here, right now. (well maybe not now but you know what I mean) Ill keep my rants to a minimum from now on. Finished rebuilding the # 2 truck and ran it before the rain came. oh wait (enter) Ran very well and did its best to rip off the battery tray. haha Lots of long nasty wheelies. Gonna need to get a bar for that. It seems the 3.0 motor just keeps getting better and better. I love it. I may even run the track with it just for kicks. Lots of better drivers at the local who would smoke me like bacon if I gave them a chance. Hoping for more Indian Summer.

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
490 You may want to shim the bevel gears while you have it apart and stuff it full of grease. I just did the #2 truck of mine with a washer on both sides of the bev gears and filled with Kyosho 30k grease. It made a noticeable difference in sound as well as smoothness. CBR6fs That rubber oring you have on the top portion of the threads is supposed to go inside the aluminum spring retainer. Mine did not thread on the shock either and after looking at it I put the o-ring inside the retainer it acts like the threads should holding the spring in place and allowing you to set the spring tension as you would need. In the instructions they have it this way so I assume they knew it wouldnt work as intended so they have you use the oring in this fashion to hold the cup in place. NITROROB I sent HPI an email to support section in reference them supporting us on the Universe. Dont know if it'll even get a response but I made my point by saying something along the lines of them possibly losing customers if they dont support the hobby on websites such as ours. Its a write off for them so why not do it? I did notice on the HPI site that they're now on Twitter. WHO CARES ABOUT TWITTER?!! This is where people from AROUND THE GLOBE get a chance to talk and support each other with THEIR PRODUCTS. I find it dis heartening to find them drop support of the Uni. You actually think a cat from Greece or Canada is gonna be on Twitter? If so, maybe Im behind the times typing away here on my trusty home pc. I call BULLSHIT on them.

Ya, I saw a Storm for sale at 235. Not bad when I paid 250 for mine. I got a total of 100 in parts in the dirt Storm after the initial investment of 60 bucks. So 160 total, not bad for such a capable truck. LRP motor? I'll have to check it out. Where are they made? Id like to see the mid-tank Sav. Ive been looking for those side plates to do that very thing to mine. Not cheap when new, so been looking for a used set. I doubt I ever will but Im gonna try.

Wow! I never thought that it weighed in at 17 pounds. Guess you could say 17 pounds of FURY. LOL Thanks for the compliments. It does look like an MT2 with the YOKO Geo's all the way around. Those tires are the best Ive had on an offroad vehicle yet. Really grab well and do a great job in any type of surface. I'll be needing another pair soon as I ran it on asphalt for a time or two to get the motor tuned in. Im yet to run the onroad with the .28. Its broken in but just havent gotten the roll cage quite right and dont want to suffer the consequences. Have too much money in it to just thrash away. Besides all the work and time I put in it, that would be a shame to just tear it all up ya know? I did look on fleabay and saw quite a few CEN's on there but most were new or close to new with high price tags. Heck the lowest bid I saw was $225.00. I know they are worth the money but, being out of work sucks. Used to be a drop in the bucket when I was working. Anyway, thanks for the encouragement and keep up the great work you've been doing.

Is that what those gears and pinions are called officially? (bullitproof) I have an older Sav with an Axial 32 and XL diffs, wide axles and dogbones. Iam yet (knockwood) to have anything break as far as the diffs or pinions. What I have broken was the front a arms after a rather nasty crash into another truck. But, I will say that the plastic a-arms hold up better than the aluminum arms. I have broken two ali arms and only the one plastic after the crash.
