RE: Cobra on the 600CF T-Rex
If you are willing to spend the time why not follow the Approach engineering concept and design your own AH-1W ? With the modifications involved you are better off starting from scratch ! Sorry didn't realize the Hirobo snake is so expensive over there. I use a Castle creations HV-85a ESC and Kontronik Tango 45-06 motor. You don't need to spend money on buying conversion kit, it's included in the kit !! (if you know where to look !)

RE: Cobra on the 600CF T-Rex
Or you can sell your Trex and buy the Hirobo kit and then convert it to electric. I have done it with both my AH-1W and AH-!S. You can see the AH-!W fly on youtube under wilerbee. In my opinion, you'll end up saving time and money in the end. Just my 2 cents.

I fly all my scale heads with the Robbe/captron Helicommand for peace of mind. It has been perfect for my purposes. Go check out my scale gallery in www.runryder.com under wilerbee.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Papasmurf, The motor has 633kv and using about 45a full throttle. The ESC is E-Max 60A and the battery is of no name barnd that I got from the factory in China 5s 1p 4000 mah rated at 20-30C. The motor is actually best with an APC 13 X 6 prop, but it looks cooler with the 3 blader. I would like to try 12 X 7 or even 12 X 8 but the shops don't carry any of these sizes. One modification I forgot to mention, I rebuilt the horizontal tailplane as a flat plate instead of using the one in the kit. I feel that the flat bottom section will lift the tail too much while flying and will always cause a nose down tendency. The turbine bobcat has a large upthrust ( the exhaust points down ) but this kit has almost a zero thrustline. Just my 2 cents !!

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Well, I maiden-ed mine today and it flys fine. CG is at 9and 1/2 inches and still a tad nose heavy but otherwise OK. Next flight will try 10 inches. I powered mine with a China made outrunner brushless on a 3 blade 12 x 6 prop with a 5s1p 4000mah battery pack. Enough power for my style of flying but a bit slow for speed demons. The main gear being so far back from the CG did not allow the plane to ROG without elevator input, but once elevator is pulled it leaps into the air. However, this layout did allow me to have a super smooth landing and once on the ground the plane did not have any tendency to bounce. I did tend to come in a bit hot though !! Hope all of you that have this kit to have as much fun as I did !!

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Ok Guys, I have one of these "bobcat 52" as well and I have converted mine to electric and will first flight this Sunday. One thought I had when I opened the kit was about the rear horizontal stabilizer cross section. My past experiences (not too much of it) in building tells me that it should either be symmetrical or the the airfoil shape should be reversed. As the plane speeds up the lift on the tail increases and will cause the nose to point down ?? Last Sunday one was test flown and the plane did not want to ROG and once full up was applied it literally leaped into the air !! This was with the factory stated C of G (wrong CG). It also proved unstable pitch wise in flight as it keeps nodding its head(probably pilot input to keep the nose up). Too bad this is only a second hand account and I wish I was there to talk to the pilot personally. I have since built a flat plate rear stab that is exchangable as an alternative. Any ideas/input on my observations ??

RE: ducted fan engine with prop
cwrr5, Actually I was thinking of maybe a 6 pound thrust turbine as an option. The size I have decided on is around 1.4 meter span and 1.8 meter length. I am trying to get to be as close to scale as possible so still playing around with numbers. With duct fan not a lot of folks here know enough about it and even less wants to deal with it here. The reason I'm thinking a kit is that quite a few of my fellow flyers would like to buy one if my prototype flies well. They prefer simple prop jets. Who knows I might just get one of the RC plane maunfacturers to make an ARF kit if I can get him to buy the idea !!

RE: ducted fan engine with prop
OOPS ! Just remember that Jett has a front carb rear exhauxt engine !! That is a better choice ? Bob27s I think you'll be getting an order from me soon !! I haven't decided on the 46 or the 50 any suggestions ? Thanks

RE: ducted fan engine with prop
Thanks for the input guys!! I am using the engine as a puller and the idea of a duct fan engine is that with rear carbs and rear exhaust the only thing sticking out is the prop and you won't see that in flight. I'll have a fibreglass tube running from the exhaust to the jetpipe so the smoke will come out the rear !! Just trying to get that scale look. I'll probably test fly with a normal OS 50 sx first then move on to the duct fan engine after learning the characteristic of the fan. The plane will be as close to scale as I can get it. I am trying to make it LOOK like a small jet turbine. I will be building a prototype with boxy fuselage first before moving on to a scale looking one.

RE: ducted fan engine with prop
Do any of you guys think that the F-8 is a good subject for a kit ? I'm thinking that with the layout of the plane, especially with the intake, the reverse mounted engine will be hidden. The reason for a ducet fan engine is also to hide the tune pipe inside the fuse, so only the prop is visible. I'll build an exhaust tube that runs through the fuse and exits at the rear, just like a duct fan. If anyone has any comments and suggestions they are most welcome. Thanks for the help and keep them coming. Willis

RE: ducted fan engine with prop
I am planning to build a F-8 cruasder for the engine. If successful might consider producing kits. My aim is to get it to go fast. I hear that if the prop is too large it'll seize the engine so I am treading carefully here.

ducted fan engine with prop
I have a OS 46 VX-DF engine and I plan to fly it with a prop instead of duct fan unit. I will be using a weston uk genesis mini pipe with it. Can anyone suggest a prop size and the amount of nitro fuel and lubricant mix ? Any help will be most appreciated. Wilerbee

RE: AMD Hawk.
Better check all the former to fuselage joints. I noticed on some kits that there are large gaps and they also don't stick well. The epoxy AMD uses are not top rated. I hope their export kits are better than the local ones.
