RE: Nitroplanes Seawind
Well it looks like UPS has either lost or misplaced my Tower Hobbies order. It was supposed to have arrived on Friday. With this development it doesn't look like the Seawind will be ready for this Fridays float fly. I won't have much time to work on it next week. I live in a rural area and I'm 70 miles from the nearest hobby shop so I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

RE: Nitroplanes Seawind
The rudder mounts just like the GP Seawind go to their web site and bring up their manual. I've found out a few more things sense my last post. Nitroplanes does not stock spare parts at least for this airplane and they use an after market covering which may make it difficult to match colors if a repair is needed. There isn't any servo or control surface recommendations in the manual so go to the GP Seawind manual for these. The nylon bolts that are used to secure the wings to the fuselage are right behind the wing tube and are very hard to get at. I've added some balsa to the wing tips in order to get a solid foundation for mounting the wing tip floats and the rudder and elevator mounting points very hard to find. I'm going to add some foam to the canopy cover and the tip floats so they don't sink in an accident as I won't be able to get replacements. If this plane flies and handles well all will be forgiven.

RE: Nitroplanes Seawind
I just received my Nitroplanes Seawind. First impressions, no missing parts very good fiberglass, paint and covering, instructions are only fair. I went to the Great Planes web site to get their manual in order to figure out the water rudder installation as Nitro was using the word fuselage instead of rudder in their instructions. There are a number of screws, nuts, clear soft washers and other assorted items I have no idea what there for and were the go. The only real ploblem that I found is that the rudder does not fit properly and will have to be modified or replaced. I've e-mailed Nitro to inform them of this and asked what brand of covering they use so I can match colors after fixing the rudder. Our club has a float fly scheduled for June 23 so I'll have a test flight report if I can finish it by then.

RE: Nitroplanes Seawind
I ordered a NitroPlanes Seawind it should arrive this Tuesday. I'm planning on using either a OS .60 two stroke or a new borrowed Magnum XL-91FS. Using the latter will depend on how well it runs as myself and others in our club have had mixed results with Magnum engines over the years.

Thanks for the report and the great photos. You've changed my mind I'm going to order the Nitroplanes version.

I hope I was wrong about my assessment of Nitroplanes in my last post. I to am looking forward to your report.

RE: Nitroplanes Seawind
I E-mailed them for more info also and got a similar answer. I get the impression that there is someone being payed minimum wage to sit in front of a monitor and give us back what little info he or she has. At this point I'll pay the extra money and go with GP.

RE: 1.20 Edge Review, the beginnings
Pat asked me to review some of my building experiences with the Edge yesterday but I was pressed for time so I thought I would relay a few things that I did. First I knew that that battery pack was marginal so I brought a second fully charged pack with me, it doesn't do any good if you don't use it! Also, the JR 631 is not adequate. The Edge arrived without a tank floor so I made one and after installing it I realized that if I glued it in I would have poor access to the landing gear bolts so I glued foam to the top of the hatch thus holding the tank in place with pressure and I glued a piece of balsa to the fuselage in back of the tank this seemed to work well. The canopy was attached with Formula 560 canopy glue and double sided tape, it stayed attached through the crash. This is the first time I used carbon fiber tubing to make control links. I first tried to cut it with a Dremel cut off wheel this tended to burn and fray the tube, I then tried a very fine toothed hobby saw and found that by applying light pressure and taking my time it worked well. Pat indicated later the he uses a larger cut off wheel that works well. If any of you are interested I'll try to take a picture of the stand I made and post it.

RE: 1.20 Edge Review, the beginnings
Hello everyone my name is Bill Simunek. I'm the person who built the 1.20 Edge for Pat Roy so he could complete his review on this aircraft. The plane arrived a couple of weeks ago partially constructed. My biggest issue at this time was that the rudder was already installed which prevented me from standing the 540 on its tail to mount the motor. After some thought I decided to build a stand out of pvc pipe and hang the plane nose up. This worked very well as it solved the biggest problen I had in building the 540. I installed a new ST 2300 the had been sitting around for the lack of having an airplane to put it in. My over all impression of the Edge is that it is well built, well engineered and presents no building problems. I was able built it without an instruction manual and some pointers on proper hardware from Pat. I have built a few other ARFs and this aircraft was superior to most of them even as a prototype. Unfortunately it didn't survive todays flying evaluation but Pat can go into the details as to what happened.

RE: ST2300 and the 79" Yak-54
I have a new Edge 540 73" approx. 11lbs. and a ST2300 that I plan on putting into this airplane. My question is what would be the best prop for this set-up.
