RE: OPS question
On another note, does anyone have a good starting dimension from the center of the glo plug to the convergence point on the pipe? If using a 2" band pipe, is the convergence point the middle of the band or is it where the first taper hits the band? Thanks, Carl

RE: About nitro engines
I gotta agree with these guys, you do not, thats do not, want to make your hull out of balsa with twin nitro's. I would think the engine torque alone would cause you more headaches than you can imagine. I have the OPS 90. One of the best nitro engines in my opinion. The only fall back is parts are not readily available. I know, I need a piston and sleeve for one of mine. The cost is over $200. They come for Great Britan. Really I would rethink the balsa thing if I were you... Carl

RE: rcmk k30
I have a K-30 in a 42" Aeromarine SC. Daniel Place did the mod work on it. I am currently building another boat, and it too will have a K-30, Daniel modded engine in it as well. Below is a video of my SC running, but beware, it is very unnerving video. (I lost radio signal, and it didn't have the failsafe on as it hit the bank on the other side of the lake)...I know but it was running good for a while. http://youtu.be/uDt66xzi33w You'll have to look around my son's video taking.... RE: Pipe length, starting point .40 & .45
Helidrop, I'm not trying to hijack your thread, but I have a question I started to post, but this has the answers, well I have one more. Maybe this will help others too. I too have a K&B 45, but my pipe has a band in the center not a convergence point (or weld point). The 10 1/2" your referencing, would this be to the center of the band on the pipe? Thanks for the interuption. Carl

Need Help with Electric..
I have a mono hull that had a nitro motor in it at one time. I took the built in motor mounts out, and put in stringers. This boat is a build my 16 year old son is doing but we need some help. 1. Can anyone give some insight as to how to mount the motor in the hull? 2. How do we connect the motor with the flex drive? I'm sure there will be other questions, but for now this will get us started. The motor is a Losi (out of a Losi short course truck) and the ESC is out of the same truck. Both are new, we just bought it when the guy that owned the truck upgraded. Thanks for your help Carl

RE: OPS question
Yeah, I tried running it without the remote needle, it just flooded the carb, to the point it was throwing nitro out of the exhaust. I thought I had the needle out only about 1.5 turns. I could be wrong. This was about a year ago, and I bought a RCMK to go into my Aeromarine SC. Hydro, If I bypass the remote needle where should I start with the carb needle. Don't really want to use the remote if I don't have to.. Thanks, Carl

RE: Shockwave 55 gel coat and repaint??
If FedEx says it wasn't insured, and the shipper says it was, have the shipper fax you a copy of the original invoice. He should have it. That will tell all. Carl

RE: DISGUSTED
ORIGINAL: expresscraft you have to make a profit to be considered a professional, that might be hard to find in this business, i just do the best i can, and let the chips fall where they might,as bad as it gets imagine where we would be, if we charged the same money the guys that can pay all there bills and still have money left over for toy boat get paid. there would not be a model boat hobby, im very happy for my customers, and there good fortunes, but i really dont think there is any one in model boating that can post a true statement of making any real money. so in the end we are all hobbiest,at best.and for most of our customers that good enough.
I agree, On another note you say you've tried 3 different props and each one goes slower. Props don't make the boat, setup makes the boat. Try looking at the setup and see if something is wrong there. Even the best, fastest prop running on someone else's boat could run badly on your boat if it's not set up correctly Just an idea. Carl

RE: OPS MARINE 14.87cc-.90 ????
I personally wouldn't use the OPS. That is one motor to stay away from for sure!!!!!!!!! they will give you a fit and they don't run very well !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, by the way if you take my advice let me know who wants to sell you this motor, I guess I could take it off his hands and help the poor fellow out. JUST KIDDING.........., I have two of these motors, ran my first one 25 years ago. I like them, parts are a little hard to come by since there isn't a distributor for them here in the US anymore. Good find by the way. I really would be interested in the motor if you choose not to buy it. Carl

McCullough/Homelite engines
Has anyone here modified a McCullough or Homelite blower motor to use in boats? I have one of each. The Mc is a 30 cc and the Homelite is a 26cc. They would have to have the fins turned down but I don't see that as a problem. The problem is in the flywheel!!! It is huge in comparrison to the Zenoah's etc. Does anyone make a conversion kit for this? The pickup is big as well. Just hate to see it go to waste. It might be fun just to play with. Anyway, if anyone has done this or knows of anyone let me know. Thanks, Carl

Which boat motor?
I am building a 36" long "v" bottom for my son. The boat is fiberglass. I'm in a delimma as to which motor to use. I think I've pretty much figured out the motor for my boat, now his. He is 15 so it's not like he's a really young kid and he has a Traxxas truck so he's not new to rc, just boats. I've thought about and looked at the .21 Nitro motors vs the 260 PUM Zenoah vs the CY engine. Don't want to sink a ton into this boat because I don't know how long he'll stay in it. (guess if he doesn't like it as much as his Traxxas I could have another boat...) anyway, the .21 Nitro motors seem to be as high as a Zenoah or CY engine. Which do you guys prefer for the least amount of problems and more bang for the buck? Also, if the .21 engine is the way to go, who sells them? I don't think if I go with the CY or Zenoah it will need to be modded. I would buy used if Iknew it was from someone reputable. One thing I don't need is someone elses problems. Thanks, Carl

RE: STRINGER DIMENSIONS...
Thanks Martno1, It looks like the height of the plywood where the engine mounts is about 2". Is that right? I made my stringers longer in the front and cut them off just behind where the engine bolts up, because I have a fiberglass radio box that fits the contour of the bottom of the boat. I made molds of this boat and the radio box I will post pics later when I pull one out of the mold. You may be interested (maybe not) pretty cool though. Carl

STRINGER DIMENSIONS...
I am taking a old vee bottom fiberglass boat I have, and I'm going to attempt to put 5" stringers in it. It cuttently has the old fiberglass engine mount/radio box style setup. The only problem with it is it's only about 4" apart to put a gas motor in. I'm cutting out the fiberglass and attempting to put in the 1/4" x ? long stringer. attached is a drawing of the stringer I have cut out of plywood along with the dimensions of it. It looks too big to me and I was wondering if anyone had any insight to the dimensions? thanks, Carl

RE: 2.4 Ghz Question
It seems that I read somewhere that the surface radios and air radios aren't meant to be used for the same application. Don't remember if that's true or not. I always used two different radios for my heli and boat. Hopefully someone with more insight will chip in... Carl

True, these bushings are press fit into the stuffing box. Even a drop of CA would help hold if your worried. The Loctite I think would probably be better, although, I've never had one come loose. Carl

RE: USEFUL ENGINES..
I got the engines apart (from the rest of the blowers) today. You think I'm going to need the fan shroud for cooling? That's a pretty big piece to fit into the boat. Is there a way to water cool this head? I would think just the movement of the boat would create enough cooling, though I could be wrong, not knowing about these engines in boats. Can you buy motor mounts, mounts for the flex drives, etc. Can the carb be exchanged for a more updated one? can any mods be done to this or is it a run as is type of motor? Man, so many questions.............I'm sure I'm going to have more Thanks for the help so far guys, Carl

USEFUL ENGINES..
I was looking around the shop today and noticed I had some grass blowers and weed eaters lying around. Of course I was wondering if either could be used for a boat motor. The ones I have are: (2) Homelite blowers (1) McCullough blower (1) Poulan Pro weedeater Does anyone know if they can be used? I called Homelite today and they said the two blowers were had 25cc engines in them. Just curious thanks, Carl
