engine for aero works 46-61 edge 540T arf ?
aero works 46-61 edge 540t arf; manual shows os 61 fx installation which did not require any altering of fuse. Has anyone used a saito engine and if so; any problems ? Have sent for model, not engine. As you know sometimes choosing an engine other than the one recommended results in a horror. Thanks, guys Richard

Taylorcraft; installing saito info.
Purchased new Taylorcraft, using saito 180 (as I did with older Taylorcraft) the manual does not give any instruction for other than the gasser. UPDATED THIS !!!! it took me 2 minutes to find the 4 button head screws, 3 minutes to install cowl and 1 minute to measure distance from firewall to front of backplate Tru Turn 2. 5 spinner. Yes we are becoming mindless beings following instructions that the walking dead would understand. Even the control surfaces on this ARF are hinged, control horns also screwed in. Even when the BIG BOX arrives I look for the words; "open this end" The faster we assemble these toys the faster we buy engines, electronics, props, etc etc for them, clever these manufacturers. Ah what the hell its all fun.

RE: Pacific Aeromodel Clipped Wing Monocoupe Build
Hello Jimbo, I have enjoyed reading your comments and would like to compliment you for caring enough to use correct spelling and grammer, a disappearing quality. No I`m not a teacher. I have had this ARF in my workroom several months and have delayed putting it together because once I begin its like a shark feeding frenzy with crazy hours and the resulting headaches. Have sent for sullivan sul03861 10-22 T/brket and skylite 4.5 wheels. Not because you spell well but because I have always purchased better tailwheel assemblies for Dave Patrick ARF`s and others. Yes the workmanship on this beauty is as good as any I have bought. Thanks for tips..... Dick "Later; I wondered why I didnt just power-up and go around again ?"

RE: flight simulators
So glad I downloaded the demo. In less than 3 minutes I realized its not for me. Without the threat of crashing etc its "dullsville" This is only my opinion. My buddy who went into turbine powered models used one to prepare for the first flights and insisted it helped him and I agreed. Its like many things, if you like it , do it ! Its not so much the bucks but how many toys do we want sitting on the shelf collecting dust ? Funny, I can take a 45 minute flight in a twin engine prop job through bad weather with rain, lightening using F.S.X. and actually feel responsible for completing the flight. Thanks again for input this R.C.U. is the best thing that ever happened to this hobby (besides ca glue)

flight simulators
I have "flight sim. x" and enjoy it occasionally using the CH fighterstick joystick. Its just entertainment guys. Long time ago had the Dave Brown sim. but found it boring. Would appreciate opinions on "real flight G5" Have never been impressed by them although at the Wram show that large screen did make a difference. Flying season finished here in Pa. It is nice however to have something to build and something else to do while epoxys set. Thanks. "hate to repair ? apply full throttle prior to impact"

RE: CLIPPED WING MONOCOUPE PROP HUB SAITO 180 ?
On the other hand if we lived in Texas like some friends, they have not had a winter in couple years. It is raining here in low 60`s. Tomorrow 9/12 is our annual fly-in (Waymart Wings) We were rained out last year and it is not looking good.

RE: CLIPPED WING MONOCOUPE PROP HUB SAITO 180 ?
Thanks Tom I ordered a type "A" hub from TruTurn. This is 1&1/4 inches long and has a widening circle at the rear. Comes with necessary adapter. I know it is a little more $ than other mfg. but I am like a sailor on shore leave when awaiting the "big box" My dog is even alert to the particular deep sound of the brown vehicle because the UPS guy always gives her 2 bisquits. Thanks for you concerns, happy landings. This season was a real bummer here in N.E. Pa. Rain, rain and it is in the 40 s at night here already.

RE: CLIPPED WING MONOCOUPE PROP HUB SAITO 180 ?
Thanks, for info. Going glo but will not add weight. May install engine early in set-up. TruTurn has always been good to me and their staff is knowledgeable. Have gone with D. Brown also. Use caps due to so many older modelers having hearing losses. Dick

YES ITS SIMILAR TO BUYING A SPINNER I SUPPOSE. USUALLY WHEN PHONING TRU TURN OR OTHERS THEY ASK WHAT ENGINE AND THEY INCLUDE THE ADAPTER FOR WHATEVER ENGINE YOU TELL THEM. WILL PROBABLY NEED A NARROWING CONE IN MY DYNATRON TOO. I HAVE NEVER ATTEMPTED HAND STARTING A 4 STK. THANKS BHADY DICK

CLIPPED WING MONOCOUPE PROP HUB SAITO 180 ?
HELLO GUYS, HAVING READ YOUR INTERESTING THREADS ON THE PACIFIC AERO. CLIP WING MONOCOUPE HAVE ORDERED ONE AND WILL USE A SAITO 180. CAN ANYONE WHO HAS IT SET-UP LIKE THIS TELL ME WHAT TO BUY FOR FRONT OF PROP. FIRST TIME I`M NOT ORDERING A SPINNER. THANKS TOO MUCH. FLEW MY 1/4 SCALE TAYLORCRAFT FOR ITS 2ND AND SO ON FLIGHTS TODAY. IT IS THE EASIEST MODEL I HAVE EVER FLOWN AND LANDED. ABOUT 14 3/4 LBS. SAITO 180 16X 8 ZINGER. VERY SURPRISED BY THE THRUST. BEEN FLYING BIPES (THEY DO HAVE DRAG) " HATE TO REPAIR ? APPLY FULL THROTTLE BEFORE IMPACT"

RE: PACIFIC AERO MODELS MONOCOUPE
THANKS CEDRICK, A LITTLE SURPRISED BY YOUR USING AN 18 ON THE SAITO BUT I JUST CHECKED AND IT IS LISTED IN THE "SCALE" COLUMN, AND THE POINTY PROPS DO GIVE A BIT MORE OOMPH THEY SAY. I SOLD THE GBY RIGHT AWAY PARTLY BECAUSE I BUILD EACH WINTER TO KEEP FROM GETTING CABIN FEVER AND HAVE TO SELL TO MAKE ROOM FOR THE NEXT PROJECT. GUYS IN THE CLUB SAID MY GBY LOOKED VERY REALISTIC IN FLIGHT BUT I DID NOT KEEP IT LONG ENOUGH TO LAND IT WELL. SEEM TO REMEMBER THAT PUTTING THE WHEEL PANTS ON WAS A PROJECT IN ITSELF. YOUR MONOCOUPE LOOKS GREAT. FINALLY TEST FLEW MY HANGER 9 1/4 SCALE TAYLORCRAFT THAT I BUILT YEARS AGO. WITH THE SAITO 180 IT LIFTED OFF AT ABOUT 1/2 THROTTLE. IT FLIES LIKE A BIG TRAINER AND THE 180 IS MORE THAN ENOUGH FOR THE WAY I FLY. THANKS AGAIN, HAPPY LANDINGS.... DICK

PACIFIC AERO MODELS MONOCOUPE
ANYBODY OUT THERE FAMILIAR WITH THE PACIFIC AERO MODELS CLIP WING MONOCOUPE ? I BUILT THEIR GEE BEE Y FEW YEARS AGO, INSTALLED G-26 AND THE MODEL WAS VERY SLOW IN FLIGHT. THE QUALITY OF THE KIT WAS OK BUT I SOLD IT LIKE MANY OTHERS. ACTUALLY THE MANUFACTURER MENTIONS IT IS NOT AEROBATIC. I THINK THE MONOCOUPE MIGHT DO A ROLL, LOOP OK AND THAT IS ABOUT ALL I DO ANYWAY. GOT AWAY FROM GASSERS FEW YEARS AGO, HAVE SAITO`S IN EVERYTHING. PLAN TO USE SAITO 180 IN THE COUPE WATCHA THINK ??

RE: 33% Weeks Solution Servos?
Built 3 large Weeks Solutions. Great user friendly biplane. Use good ($35) servos thru. Use 2 for elevator which will require a reverser. Built a true scale 33% from plans. Built cowl from formers, balsa and thin ply. and it came out perfect, and it was not that difficult to do. Covering it with ultricote made job easier because of the amount of shrinkage this material provides. Also used the G-62 and slimline muffler that wrapped around perfectly. Made pants from balsa block, 1/8 ply insert on sides then added more balsa on sides to round out the pant a little more. The C.G. also came out very nice with no weight needed anyplace. Coverted the G-62 to E.I. installed flat pack 700 to front of firewall. Fueling was done through the front of cowl using "Du-Bro Lg. scale Kwik-Fill fueling valve" (# 611) Fuse and wings were both 72" Weight was appox 21 ? Let me know how things go. Oh, use 4 servos for ailerons in case you were thinking otherwise.

RE: FUJI 50cc on Christen Bipe ARF (27%)
Have made decision, going with DL-50. May use hardware from "PSP" to attain desired length of holdoffs. Not interested in electric, love the noise of turbines, gassers and 4 strokes. I fly from a "full size" grass runway where "hold off, hold off" smooth landings "should" not be difficult. Again; "YOU CAN NOT OVERPOWER A BIPLANE" (who said that ?) I will not be writing in reference to this topic again, thanks too much for input. Dick

RE: FUJI 50cc on Christen Bipe ARF (27%)
Reading all the comments I do not recall seeing anything about chopping up the box to install these gas engines. All of the engines mentioned would require this. A U.S. 41 engine can be installed but requires an additional 1/4 of ply. So maybe this indicates smaller gassers would fit, but then you are giving up some power. Anybody know of a 40cc gasser that really puts out, that might be the answer to my not altering that very nice mortising work done on that "box" Appreciate all comments guys. Dick

RE: FUJI 50cc on Christen Bipe ARF (27%)
NOT FOR ANYTHING BUT THE TRUE SCALE, THIS MODEL = 28.7% I have built approx 3 dozen models but do not recall having this much trouble selecting an engine. Even the Fuji engine is a problem, in that: you must use the "short prop hub" to make the 6 & 1/2 inch max and it may not be available, incidentally I have not purchased any engine yet.

RE: FUJI 50cc on Christen Bipe ARF (27%)
Thanks for opinions I am assuming you are aware Fuji engine BT-50SB sold few years ago was 5.5 lbs Present 50cc is BT-50EI and is 3.5 lbs (w/o muffler) or do you still have negative opinions ? Suggest an engine ? Any knowledge or experience with XYZ ? Are you guys aware of the 6 & 1/2 inch max limit in length of engine to be installed firewall to backplate, it makes selections of engines very small unless you want to rip out the box in front of firewall. How about a twin saito but I will need to re-mortgage my house.

FUJI 50cc on Christen Bipe ARF (27%)
The G.P. Christen E. Bipe A.R.F. a 27% model is a little limited as far as gas engines are concerned. The distance from the box in front of firewall to spinner backplate 6 1/2" Opening up the box a little might be an answer. However an engine that can be used after changing to a short prop hub is the FUJI BT-50SB. This engine is equipped with ei so should start ok. Any opinion on this engine. Thanks[8|]

RE: power for G.P. Christen Eagle ?
Thanks Chuck, I should have realized a gasser is a must. I like zenoah engines they are so reliable but a G-45 might not be enough and the "workhorse" the G-62 might be too large. going to look up the prices on the ones you mentioned. Believe I saw this model with a G-62 but I dont really shoot holes in the sky. Still have another Dave Patrick bipe and one N.I.B. to put together they are great flyers and only need a saito 150, about 13 lbs dry. Demolished one last week, but you have to move on, all part of the hobby. Dick

muffler for G-62 on Balsa USA Ercoupe
This is a muffler question for anyone who has built the Balsa USA Ercoupe and used the "B&B Specialties" mount and the "Zenoah G-62" engine. In the photos I have seen when the G-62 was installed a side mounted muffler was used and thus the pipes come down thru cowl at side. If you stay with the stock canister, then ext. pieces are used also exiting bottom side. In other models that I installed the G-62 I used the "slimline" inverted muffer that comes back to the rear, pipes at rear of cowl. Its really just a matter of taste but always thought it looks neater. If it cant be easily done I will probably go for the B&B side mount, less expensive too, but when it comes to this hobby we are like sailors on leave with back pay. Do not attempt to talk me out of using this engine, already purchased a G-62 custom made E.I. beauty, hand start at 1 rpm from B.H. Hanson. Thanks too much for any info. Dick

RE: Balsa USA 1/3 scale Ercoupe
Thanks Jorden, have located and marked all die cut parts, but was disappointed when I pinned down the plan for wing center section ( you may recall this when you started your project) and saw ribs known as cr-1 but in manual they are something else. Figured it out however and located the 6 ply and 4 balsa total of 10 The newspaper used as shipping padding is couple years old so forget anything new in these kit. Built the boxes over the square tubes this A.M. and was surprised that they slid out nicely after. The wax paper sounded dopey but they were right. Have built several dozen models but this does not look like an easy project. Dick

RE: Balsa USA 1/3 scale Ercoupe
Thanks, I understand there are mistakes in manual ( not unusual) but was told when in doubt plan is way to go. Hoping "addendums" have been added to kit manual. This is another model that has to go out the door tail first this way then turn that way while you hold the prop this-a way.

RE: 1/4 Scale TaylorCraft spinner question
I just put the Hanger 9 taylorcraft ARF together and used a "tru turn" spinner. I am holding the invoice and it reads; " C02500 2-1/2" std. cone blank 23.96 The backplate was another 13.49 There is another charge depending on the prop you use (tell them ) This is the right size spinner regardless if you use tru turn.

Thanks to all the building info on this Balsa USA Ercoupe model I bit the bullet and my dog Penny is waiting at the front window for the brown funny sounding truck.
