RE: Who has a 3D printer?...
Hi Mark, laser set nylon plastic printing would be the best for a durable, smooth plastic to replace the ABS parts, however honestly, i don't think in this application 3d printing these might be the best option, unless you are looking to actually add some details .. as for details ... 95% of the laser printing done out there SUCKS on detail because it all comes out "stepped" to a certain degree ,,, and it needs polished or sanded .. so you lose detail.. this is why for detail its best to go with uv cured acrylic .. it allows for great detail with very little stepping , however it is more brittle .. ( would crack likely on a large piece like this. .. for some rough shapes and detail, the nylon is still good to a degree however My recommendation would probably be to do as some others have and either lay the vacuformed parts with glass, or use them to make molds to make fiberglass shrouds. We can set them up to be 3d printed, but it would take many measurements ... 3d scanning still would only facilitate for the outer shell shape, and strut dimensions would also need to be considered .. PM or email me if you would like us to either way make these better for you ... we are also working on many 3d printed accessories for jets ( to add to the heli line we carry with 3Ds ) .. so any ideas, suggestions, requests, etc would be great :) all best, Voy

Hi Mark, we handle 3d Printing at www.ALL-SCALE.com and are partnered with 3DS out of France, as well as doing some CAD work 3d printing , and laser cutting out of the US ... could you provide more detail on the parts you would be looking for ? does this need to be solid ?, structural, or decorative ? or can the parts be hollowed ( lightened ) http://www.all-scale.com/PROD4_3DS.html Voy

RE: Some more
Glad you guys like it [:D] I do agree with many that the smile gets creepy. My 12 year old said " man, all this guys need is a 1/4 scale white van" lol [:D] For the 1/4 scale pilots we deal with http://www.premierpilots.net/ and carry their items. there are several heads, and options available. Actually, i can make the fingers move .. Vinny, i know what you are thinking ! lol ... it would definitely be the "Brooklyn way " [:D] lol these are listed as 1/4, but to also fit well in 1/5 scale. I'm using one of these in a 1/4.5 P-47 and its perfect. Ali has one of these for his F-104 as well. As to needing more channels. you actually don't need any ;) the pilot runs off of a programed controller without any user input. just power on and go :) What is also possible , is to use a multiplexer that allows the pilot to be switched between autonomous full automatic mode, or switch ( via rx channel) to have the pilots functions controlled off of the TX .. this can be separate channels , or y-cables from functions like aileron, elevator , rudder , etc .. they can also be switched on/off from the RX via out relay switches .. http://shop.all-scale.com/rxrelayseparatepowerswitches.aspx I will have all prices , options and info on the site later today, including all the Premiere Pilots items as well, and some 1/6 scale (12" ) pilots and options too. these are all plug and go . or for now, please email / PM me wojtek@all-scale.com http://www.all-scale.com http://shop.all-scale.com this is the example of the not as creepy 2-function pilot we have Voy

RE: RCU member and jet modeler in a serious accident
wow, that's always sad to hear when someone goes down :\ Wishing David a speedy recovery! Motorcycles are great, but the fact is that its dangerous to ride them. I did not get a bike myself for a long time because i knew I could not trust myself on one. When i turned 30 i got a Harley NightRod (because i was still afraid of not trusting myself on a sport bike [:D] ) I always observer all the traffic rules, and rode when traffic was light. Often i would take my son (around 8 at that time ) after school for a ride out to the beach. It was a great time together. Having had the bike for a year, one day I rode out and as i was leaving my development, a car swerves head on int my lane ( i think the woman was avoiding a squirl ! ) . I turned hard, but bottomed out the frame and the bike came out from under me. Bike Totaled.. I had nasty road rash, but shockingly that was it. I got off easy. I would Love to get another bike, but I would never take my son with me on it after that. I was so thankful he was not on it with me! .. so I did not get anotoher bike :\ I just cant tell my son that dad got another bike, but he cant go with me any more. One day when we move to where its less populated .. maybe then .. for now, i will travel on the INSIDE of the vehicle, lol ride safe guys! Voy

RE: Metalmorphing the CARF P-47
Hey everyone, progress has been slow the last few weeks as we have had the blessing of welcoming out baby daughter on Aug 22 :) I have now been back on the project , and am starting to apply some of the graphics .. Since the Aluminum will be polished and cleaned sometimes, the choice of graphics was an issue. Dry transfers will rub off. So I came up with a dual solution. The nose art is printed on vinyl. www.BandEGraphix.com did a great job on printing these, and I have to thank my friend Chip from www.apwpaint.com for digitizing the nose art into clean vector format so I could have it printed up nice and crisp :) I can always peel the old vinyl off, and stick on new ... the rest of the nomenclature will be done on my laser printer. I am using the Decal Pro system from http://www.pulsarprofx.com/decalpro/ I like this as every piece I print, i have the option of sealing with a clear coat mylar. I have tested it and it can withstand not clean and polishing, but even mild sanding. ( the mylar is like a screen protector for the toner image ) If I have to I can always reapply .. I have counted over a thousand pieces of nomenclature I will need !! lol ... ( such as a number ID on the fuse and panel for EVERY hatch / panel )

RE: Metalmorphing the CARF P-47
I agree, an extra 10 or even 15 lbs would not hurt this plane, I actually think heavy planes fly better when it goes for scale flying. The weight can be a concern however with some airframes at slower speeds and it will affect stall characteristics. On the other hand, when I decided to drill, countersink and glue the thousands of screws, weight was a potential concern. My initial though was that I might end up with several pounds of screw and extra glue .. but it really surprised me how little they weighed. Also, when countersinking, a substantial amount of material was remover. The backing glue is very light. I used foaming polyurethane glue. Very little glue spreads to a large area with little weight. The biggest issue with all the screws to me is that of structural integrity. I basically perforated and Swiss Cheesed most of the plane [:D] ... carbon mat and carbon tow with resin brought the strength back up and beyond the original structural integrity. Warbirds do tend to fly well when on the heavy side [8D] around 50lbs wet .. 100" span around 35lbs wet. 1700mm rotorspan [:D] ~V~ [:D][:D]
ORIGINAL: RBardin
I have also seen and herd of several bandits shedding wings, stabs, etc in flight during normal use.
I would be really interested in some substantive details on this, Voy. Please post more info... Most everyone here remembers Adil's issue, but honestly thats the last I've heard or seen of what you describe above, and that one was extremely isolated with many circumstances about it. On what versions comparable to a UF have you seen/heard these issues happen? I have seen a Youtube of a guy who admittedly flew a BARF 100 mph over VNE and destroyed it, but that would fall far beyond the parameters of normal use. I'm still working on a composite super myself, so if there is anything I need to look out for or be aware of, then I want to know! Rusty
Adils wings ripping off is one I have seen blow apart first hand. I saw one at a jet rally in VA with the vertical stab ripping completely off in flight causing a crash. Two have blow apart in the air at a local field in PA that I know of. There are other instances reported here on RCU also. If its gentle pattern aerobatics someone wants, a bandit is great. The UF is definitely a more robust airframe. The hinge delamination can be a pain, but at least ,it wont likely occur in flight, or cause the airframe to blow apart. As for the poor paint scheme sellection, well, one can always go custom [;)] ~V~

RE: Metalmorphing the CARF P-47
I was really surprised that all the screws weighed up at no more than another 2.5 Lbs, another 1lb for glue , and some areas i reinforced with carbon fiber / resin. The metal plating came in as light as a light paint job, so I don't consider that to be any extra weight there. I don't think im coming in more than 7 - 8 lbs over a standard basic build with all the extra I'm putting in .. ( dive flap set up, animatronic pilot, cockpit, smoke system, sliding canopy, etc ... However much I enjoy building, i do have to say this last stretch has been getting tedious, lol ... I can't wait to have it done and sitting on the runway !
ORIGINAL: Jetkopter Im sure the P 100 will fit , I have seen p80s in these airframes so a 100 should be no problem. Your problem will be fuel, I have one with a functional center belly tank and may just drop a p100 in it.Its going to get small real fast! I saw sams fly at Hamburg this past weekend and it was looking good.
Hey Don, did you ever get to fly that F-16 on the P80? The F-16s flew well on ram 500, and i was curious how it would have flown with the fully bypassed p-80. The original glo powered ones flew ok as well.. Lots of runway needed [:D] The p100 would fit perfectly, but there is not much room for fuel. The wet center-line tank might be more of a necessity rather than option depending on power plant selection and power rating. ~V~

RE: Ultra flash or Bandit
I personally think the Ultra Flash is a lot better flying of a jet over the Bandit ... Preference may differ between flying styles. To me the UF is more "snappy" and light feeling, taking tight aerobatics somewhat better. For cruising around with an occasional point roll or loop here or there, the BARF, or any other bandit would be great as well however. I have also seen and herd of several bandits shedding wings, stabs, etc in flight during normal use. I don't believe many (if any) any flashes have been reported to loose parts in flight... , on the other hand, Flashes do have a problem with surface hinging delamanating if not handled carefully on the ground or in transport. ~V~

The BVM Rafale used a 1/4" metal rod up through the hinge pivot center line up into the rudder, and is bent back around 1". The rudder has a 1/4" groove carved in a hardwood block as a receptacle for the rod. On the inside, the rod has a bellcrank with pull pull arms to the servo horn. The inner ailevators are engaged in a similar way. No external linkage. I'm not sure if my description makes sense .. maybe someone could post pics of the setup ? ~V~
