RE: Pheonix Extra 330S 60-90 Size
I agree with Moody and Billie. Have had no issues with the landing gear. As I have said before, mine is pretty well box stock, weighs in at 7 lbs. I fly mine with a shallow decent with a little power on landing and have no problem. It just kisses the ground. I had one dead stick and I kept the speed up and landed with no problem. I personally think if you fly your final approach too steep with power off with this airplane you will be wishing you hadn't because steep approaches will mean hard landings and bent gear. It's kind of funny, a lot of guys never learn how to fly. They get a few planes, start into 3D but every landing is a controlled crash. Every time I go to the field I take my tower trainer and shoot a bunch of touch and goes, then get out my aerobatic model and shoot touch and goes. Makes for wonderful flying skills. I consider myself an intermediate flyer and am not in to 3D. Just like to do classic aerobatics. Woody

RE: aerobatic plane for g75
I have the Phoenix Extra and power it with a GMS .76. The entire engine fits inside the cowl. I built mine as light as possible and the .76 flies it nicely. It weigh's in at 7 lbs. It will loop, roll, hammerheads, cuban 8's, just about anything you would want to do but I doubt if you can do 3d with it. I am not in to 3d so I could care less about 3d. I am sure the SuperTiger 75 would pull it fine. I know the Supertiger will not fit inside the 75 size Seagull Extra because I had one. It met an untimely demise with the ground. Stupidity on my part. There is a complete thread on the Phoenix Extra in this section. I personally like this model better than the Seagull. It is somewhat larger than the Seagull. My Phoenix is box stock. Only mod was a larger fuel tank

RE: Pheonix Extra 330S 60-90 Size
Dave, You are quite right. This is the 1st aerobatic model that I have built that I have not done the mod on the elevator. For some reason I decided to go exactly by the plans with no mods. I kind of regret that now. I think over the winter I will pull the stock servo's and buy some metal gear servo's for the elevator's. I am building a Sig Fazer currently and I can use the stock servo's on the Fazer. Anyway when I first built this model it was pretty twitchy and I consider myself an intermediate flyer. So I dumbed it down a little bit, 60% expo and 40% controol throws on low rates. Now that I am getting used to the plane i am about ready to decrease the expo and increase the control thows. Anyway, my plane comes in right at 7 lbs with the GMS .76, and I am not into 3D so I get along just fine with the power unit.

RE: Pheonix Extra 330S 60-90 Size
I have an extra long cowl if anyone needs one. I had a little accident with mine and I ordered the wrong cowl. I reordered the short cowl to fit my older style model. The more I fly this plane the more I like it. You all need to watch flying this plane too fast. I was making a low high speed pass with mine and noticed I was having elevator flutter. I instantly reduced power and the flutter disappeared, but be careful. I reread this thread and several guys said, "watch your speed". I noticed a slight bit of slop in my elevator linkage so I reworked it and took out the slop but I will also be extra careful about flying too fast. But, this plane really looks good in a shallow dive high speed pass. I am flying with a GMS .76 with a 13 x 6 prop. Has plenty of power for my needs. Woody

I decided to adjust the idle on mine while at home today and discovered the throttle trim was inop on my throttle servo,so, guess I will replace the servo. Just a minor inconvienance. Man I like this plane.

RE: Pheonix Extra 330S 60-90 Size
Maidened my Pheonix Extra today. What a great plane. I built the plane light. Came in at 7 lbs even. I powered the plane with a GMS .76. The CG is right on 120mm. I did the lateral check and wound up tapeing 2 quarters out on the end of the left wing on the bottom. After taxi tests and flight control checks I taxied out to the end of the runway, slowly applied power and was airborne in about 100 ft. She climbed straight out I made a nice easy left hand turn. Winds were about 8mph, perfect for a 1st flight. Hands off flight only required one click of left aileron. Elevator was perfect. I installed a larger tank so 8 to 10 minute flights are possible. Shot a couple of approaches to get the feel of the plane and then landed her, the landing was uneventful. I really like the fact that she flies exactly where you point her. If you build her light she will fly very slow. I flew her with 50% expo, low rates at 60% and high rates at 100%. I do not fly 3D, just like to do nice aerobatics. Loops and rolls were majestic. Overall, I am super happy with this plane. Woody

RE: Seagull Models extra 300s .75
I installed my battery right where your receiver is installed. That is where it balances the CG out the best. Is the reason you wound installing your battery in the wing that the plane was not balancing laterally? Woody

RE: Seagull Models extra 300s .75
I'm glad to see more postings on this plane. I thought I was the only one out there for a while. Keep those posts coming. When I maiden mine, I will certainly put a post in the thread about it so everybody keep in touch. Woody

RE: Seagull Models extra 300s .75
I just finished mine. No real issues so far. One thing I did was go over all the joining areas in the fuselage and run a bead of epoxy. Mine seemed to not be glued together very well. It may have been just fine but I didn't see a lot of glue around the joints. I am powering mine with a GMS .76. I am going to maiden it using standard servo's but I am going to buy metal gear servo's ASAP. I fly off a grass field which is much too wet to fly off of right now. Will have to wait until the flying field dries out some. Also, I bought the Airtronics RDS8000 and the receiver that goes with it. This will be my 1st 2.4 bird. I have to say though, the 300S is a really nice looking aircraft, i just hope it flies as good as it looks. I currently fly a World Models Clipped Wing Cub, Senior Telemaster, two Kadet Seniorita's one of which is on floats, an Extreme Flight Vanquish and a GWS Formosa. This is kind of my move on up aerobatic airplane. I don't have much desire to fly 3D but would like to be able to fly good solid aerobatics. i also just purchased a Hobby Lobby F-86. My 1st EDF.
