RE: does this wing loading sound right for habu vs habu32 ??
Your calculations do not seem correct. The stock Habu 32 weighs 7.4 lbs, which is 118 oz. Wing area is 392 sq. in., so that is a loading of 0.30 oz per sq in. I could not find the exact sq in spec for the PZ Habu wing, but scaling it based on the wingspan difference, it is about 80% of 392, or 314 sq in. Weight is 2.8 lbs, or 45 oz. so the wing loading is .142 oz per sq in. The ratio is about 2 to 1, not 3 to 1.

RE: looking for pusher prop jet flies like E-flight Habu 32 ?
I have the Habu 32 and have seen a Scimitar fly at my field. The speed of the Scimitar is disappointing, no where near the speed of the Habu 32. In fact, my old Parkzone Habu is probably as fast as the Scimitar.

RE: HABU 32?
On RCGroups some people have recieved theirs already, there are even pictures available. I pre-ordered mine back on Nov 19th, and have been worried that I may not get in on the first shipment, but my bank account is indicating today a charge pending from HH. If it ships out of CA, then I should have it by the end of the week. I already have my reciever, batteries, servos and retracts ready to install.

RE: New Habu on the Horizon...
I found out that they call out 7 of the MC35s and 1 of the DS368. Found this on RCGroups. I am going to use 7 HS-82MGs and 1 HS-225MG instead. These are metal gear and have slightly higher torque and slightly better speed. I am also going with a SportBEC from Dimension Engineering, since this will output 3.5Amps. I have had a failure of the BEC in the ESC on my PZ Habu, and that one is only driving 5 servos. I also have a 3S 1000mAh Lipo that I won at a flying event, and may use that to supply the BEC for the RX and servos. To me that provides insurance against the ESC or main battery having a problem.

RE: Habu Owners
I have a DX7 that I use with 8 different aircraft. I have 5 AR500 recievers (including the one on the Habu). 1 AR7000, 1 AR6200 and 1 AR6400. I have seen two AR500 failures in the past, but both issues happened on the ground and were easily reproducable. My Corsair had an intermittent aileron hardover and I also had one AR500 that would not range check. Horizon replaced both of them and I saw no further problems. I put the RX from the first Habu incident in another old trainer aircraft and it works just fine. I also had one 30 amp Eflite ESC go up in smoke on one of my aircraft when powered up on the ground, definitely a hard failure. My conclusion is that the BEC failed, not the TX or RX. In both cases of failure it occured while applying aileron and elevator commands, in other words the servos would have been loading the BEC. I also have noted that the ESC in the Habu does get pretty warm, but I limit my flights to 4-5 minutes and always let it cool down between flights for at least 30 minutes. My Habu pulls 55 amps at full throttle and I never fly an entire flight at full throttle, so it should not be over stressing the ESC.

RE: Habu Owners
Has anyone experienced a BEC failure on their Habu? I have had two crashes due to complete loss of power and control, the second one completely destroyed my airframe and ESC, and also damaged the battery. The first time this happened to me the aircraft was at low altitude turning to a downwind leg after a low pass over the runway. Right in front of me it just went silent and would not respond to control inputs. The airframe was damaged, but repairable. I decided it could be the RX, so replaced it with a spare AR500. flew for another month, and then yesterday while performing a split S, the motor again stopped and I lost all control. Unfortunately, I had already rolled it inverted and pulled on the elevator when this happend and it came straight down into the ground. The entire front half of the fuselage was completely destroyed. Another pilot at the field thought it was the BEC, which is built into the ESC. I tend to agree, since this has happened with two different receivers. He suggested that I should use separate BECs with anything that uses a 4S or bigger battery. I have been flying 4 other aircraft with the AR500 and Eflite ESCs and have never seen this type of failure on any of them, but all the others are running 3S batteries. I am contacting Horizon, since my Habu is less than a year old and is still under warranty. My Habu is completely stock.

RE: Habu first EDF
If you want something with landing gear, the Wings Maker J10B is $125 with fan, motor and three servos, just add an ESC, RX and 2100 3S battery. It is easy to fly and can slow down at very high AOA due to the canard. It is a delta wing, so you will need a mixing TX for that, and it has a rudder for crosswind TO and Landings. http://www.thewingsmaker.com/airplane_details.php?name=J-10B%20Fighter%20(Combo)

RE: Hi guys! Care to help a newbie with his Corsair?
Rebind it. Also make sure you are not adding trim to the throttle after binding it, that will cause the motor to not run, but all the servos will work just fine. During binding the reciever uses the throttle position as the fail safe setting and will not operate the motor until it sees the throttle go back to that setting and then advance. So if you add in any forward trim on the throttle and power up the aircraft, it will never respond to throttle again unless you either take out the trim or rebind.

RE: New Habu on the Horizon...
I put in my pre-order and have the retracts already. I also already had an AR7000 RX to use in it. There is no manual on the web yet and it indicates 8 servos are needed, but in the parts list there is one analog and one higher torque digital servo called out. How many of the higher torque servos are needed? Is there a need to reverse the servos for elevator or flaps? Maybe Dave is still monitoring the thread and can provide some answers.

RE: Turnigy Lipos
I have measured the current draw in my Habu and it is 55amps at full power. That is under 20C for a 3300mAh pack, which is supposed to be rated at 30-40C. If these packs are both being over worked, then it is due to them not meeting the claimed rating, not because I am exceeding the rating. I have used the same motor in a smaller jet (Wingsmaker J10B) using two THP2600 3S 20C batteries, and neither one puffed up. The motor drew 42 amps on that setup.

RE: Turnigy Lipos
I have two of the regular (not Nano) packs 3300mAh 4s 30-40C that I use in my Habu. These packs puff up very badly during flight. I have had one flight where I had a brown out, enigne shut down and no response, resulting in a crash because I was at low altitiude. These are the only packs that I have that I have seen puff up. They are both about 6 months old. I have several Thunder Power and Eflite batteries that are over a year old and they never puff up and have not lost any capacity. I believe in the expression that "you get what you pay for".

RE: Parkzone Micro SU-26 XP - Motor worn out in 2 weeks
The warranty on these planes is 12 months, so I would send it back to HH and have them fix it. I have a SU-26M that I bought in January and it has been replaced twice and repaired once under warranty. It still has issue with sticking aileron servo. I have not been on this forum in a while, but noticed the motor issue with the new SU-26XP, so I guess I will not be getting one of those.

RE: Slick-3D-Micro ARF for PZ Brick
I have had the aileron freeze on 2 different aircraft. I also had the elevator freeze on one of them after crashing due to the aileron freeze. When I opened up the canopy I could move the elevator gear and free it up, but then I found that the elevator would no longer move at all. As I rotated the larger gear manually with my finger, I could feel it stcking at one point. But with the battery plugged in and putting commands on the elvator it would not even try to move in either direction. Each time I had an aileron freeze, I was able to loosen it with my finger and then the servo would work again. I am not convinced the aileron freeze is due to the gears. Both of the gears rotate completely many times when moving from neutral to full travel, so if that is the cause, then it seems the ailerons could freeze at neutral as well as at full travel. My experience has been that the ailerons only freeze at full travel on high rates. So my theory is that something is sticking in the linear protion of the servo when the aileron freezes, it is not necessarily the gears that are causing that problem.

RE: E Flite Bae Hawk batteries?
I would recommend 30C if you go with something in the 3200 to 3300mAh range. This is what comes with the Habu and it has basically the same size motor has the Hawk, just a slightly different KV rating. I have measured the power on the Habu motor with the Hyperion battery and it is pulling 800 watts and 52 amps steady state at WOT. I have not measured the Hawk yet, but on one of the threads I saw a report that it was about 900 watts with a similar battery. Based on the current draw, a 20C battery would work, but I feel it is better to have some margin in the rating. If you decide on a bigger battery, say 4000mAh, then 20C is probably OK.

RE: E Flite Bae Hawk batteries?
I agree a 3S is not adequate for an EDF. I have a Hyperion 4S 3300mAh 35C and it fits in the Hawk. I can get 5+ minutes, but I do not fly WOT the whole time. I have found that the battery has to be mounted way back on the tray, i.e. toward the wing, to get the CG right. The manual shows the 3S mounted more toward the front. I see no reason that a 4000mAh would not fit, but just make sure the CG is OK. I have the ESC mounted with a velcro strap around the vent holes in the belly and it could be moved back more to help the CG with a heavier battery.

RE: Slick-3D-Micro ARF for PZ Brick
I believe that the AR6400L is just a different version with the "long throw" servos, that is what the L stands for. It is not really a newer version, it was produced for the 4 Site and is also in the new SU-26XP. From the pictures that I have seen it has the same gears as the other version, so if these gears are getting burrs on them, then I suspect this L version could have the same issues. I certainly do not consider the linear servos and their nylon gears to be "new technology".

RE: Slick-3D-Micro ARF for PZ Brick
The SU-26 is the only micro that I have. I also have the Parkzone T-28, Corsair and Habu along with the Eflite Apprentice and BAE Hawk. The only one of these other aircraft I ever had a problem with was the Corsair. It had an intermittent aileron hardover with the original DX5 and AR500 that came with it. HH replaced them and I never had another problem. I currently use a DX7 for all my aircraft and have no issues, except for the SU-26. I have concluded that the issues are with the AR6400 and/or linear servos on the micros. Yes, I have crashed aircraft before due to my own fault and for those cases I do not complain about the product. I have never crashed the SU-26, except when I got the aileron freezes.

RE: e-flite f-16
I flew the 4000kv motor with the THP2600 battery and it could not go vertical. I gave up on the F-16 and put mine into the trash. It is totally under powered and has major CG issues with either battery set up. I bought a Habu and also got a BAe Hawk. I power both with a 3300 4s 30C to 35C batteries and they fly great. I would never try an EDF with anything less than a 4S battery again. A 4s will not fit in the 16 and they weigh too much anyway. Sorry for the pessimistic response, but I wa was very diappointed in the F-16 even after trying a bigger battery and a better motor. Also the nose gear was very fragile and it bent on every flight after landing.

RE: Slick-3D-Micro ARF for PZ Brick
Here are the failure stha tI have had: 1. SU-26 #1 - sluggish rudder, elevator intermittently fails to respond to up commands 2. HH replacement #2 - aileron intermittently freezes at full travel in flight resulting in crashes, then elevator servo fails to respond at all 3. HH replacement #3 - aileorn servo intermittenlty freezes at full travel in flight resulting in crashes, then elevator servo fails to respond at all So my experience is that out of 9 total servoes, 6 have failed. That is a failure rate of 66%. I am sending aircraft 3 back and am asking for a refund. This has all occurred in a 3 month period. I just wrote a review on the HH web site giving the SU-26 a poor rating. I bet they will filter this and remove it from the web site.

RE: Slick-3D-Micro ARF for PZ Brick
Nice idea. Unfortunately my experience has been that the AR6400 "brick" and separate aileron servo have failed on three different SU-26 aircraft, with all of the airframes in excellent condition. Come up with a reliable replacement for that brick and servo and I will buy them.

RE: Sukhoi Su-26M BNF by ParkZone
Wheelnut, I am glad to see that at least one person on this forum agrees with me. The ironic thng is that I have a T-28 that is about 6 months old and have never had a problem with it. It has never been crashed, the only thing I have ever replaced is the prop, and that is due to some tipsy landings in crosswinds, which are very typical at my flying field. My neighbor has an Ultra Micro P-51 and his has been reliable. I bought the Sukoi after seeing his P-51, because I did not want another warbird, I also have a Corsair. Personally, I am willing to pay more for quality and expect things that will last. The most irritating thing is all the shipping costs invovled in this, HH does nto pay for me to ship it back. Maybe if they did they would figure out that cheap Chinese junk costs them more in the long run. The obvious root cause of the failures that I have seen are in the Spektrum electronics and linear servos.

RE: Sukhoi Su-26M BNF by ParkZone
Welcome to the unreliable Parkzone SU-26. I purchased my first one on December 9th and never got a flight in, well unless you consider ten seconds at five foot altitude a flight, due to servo problems in rudder and elevator as well as a total lack of power. Sent it back to Horizon and they replaced it. Got the replacement and flew it for a week, mostly on low rates, then had the aileron freeze in flight twice resulting in crashes while flying at high rates. The elevator servo completely failed as well after the second crash. I sent this one back and got another replacement in February, yes that is my third SU-26. Been flying for about a month with no problems, then yesterday I got two aileron freezes in flight and crashed both times due to loss of control. Full opposite aileron command was completely ignored and the aircraft spun into the ground. On this third plane I had been flying with 90% on full rates, just to provide some margin based on previous bad experiences. After losing it yesterday the first time I went down to 80%, but the loss of control with aileron freeze happened again on the next flight. This time the elevator failed completely after the crash (deja vue from aircraft #2). There was almost no damage to the airframe in either of the crashes, just a few bumps in the cowling where the prop was bent back and hit it. opened it up and could find nothing obvious that was wrong, elevator simply fails to respond to any commands. I sent an email to Horizon asking for a refund or a credit to buy something else this time, I am done with this model and will not fly it again. Three months, three airplanes and no joy. I just refuse to put up with something that is this unreliable. If you are having aileron freezes, send it back, something is wrong. Setting the travel limits to a lower value is a bandaid that will not be effective in the long run.

RE: My parkzone HABU
You can make the AR500 (5 channel) work for flaperons. You have to connect the left aileron to the Gear output and mix that with ailerons and the flap switch. I put the setup (using a DX7) on the PZ Corsair thread under Park Flyers.

RE: Habu question?
I use canopy glue for the ESC. I would use Epoxy or CA for the servos, canopy glue tends to stay soft and the servo movement could be affected by that. The actual glue they use is something different.

RE: Phoenix ????
I have the Parkzone Corsair and T-28. I have flown the Corsair on the Phoenix and it matches pretty well with the real plane. However, I just downloaded the T-28 and it does not behave like the real plane. It is terribly out of trim in elevator, even with full nose up trim on the controller I have to hold some up stick to keep it from nosing down. Anyone else seen this issue? It also seems very sluggish in roll, even with high rates.

The Eflite BAe Hawk has basically the same fan and motor, slightly more kv, and it has a mylar tube in it. You may be able to just order one of those tubes for the Hawk, or at least download the BAe Hawk manual to see how to install it. I have the Habu and the Hawk so I am familiar with that setup.

RE: Hobbycity.com Zippy Lipo Batteries
What is your experience with the shipping time using the registered mail? I decided to order a couple of Turnigy batteries (3300mAh 4s 30C) from Hobby King for my Habu and BAe Hawk. They sent me an email saying they were sent on Feb 11 and I have not seen them yet. I also feel that the shipping cost for these direct from China is not so cheap, for my two batteries it ended up being 25% of the battery cost just to ship them. If I buy from a US internet hobby site I can get free shipping on orders of $100 to $120 which is a much better deal. I have not tried the cheap batteries yet. My personal experience is that Parkzone batteries do not seem to last very long, but my E-flite and Thunder Power batteries have been very good. Yes, they do cost more, but I have had very good reliability with them.
