RE: Mato Sherman metal upgrade
ORIGINAL: Strato50
ORIGINAL: wsn123 I moved sprocket wheels about 5mm up - Is it now correct?
That looks great! Did you raise up the entire gearbox? I hope it still has good internal room on top.
Yes , I raised the whole gearboxes - after this there is minimal room at the top - about 4-5 mm - but its enough
ORIGINAL: fynsdad Got to agree with Mike. The turret mod has got to be one of the best mods you can do to improve the looks of the Mato Sherman. Here's a pic of my Mato/Tamiya hybrid, you can see the turret sits much lower[;)]
Thanks for sharing, great looking Sherman. Have You installed any recoil in turret? any sugestions?
ORIGINAL: sassgrunt Wow - it looks a LOT better with the raised drive sprocket! If you have seen the difference between an unmodified turret, and one that has been lowered; you might decide that it is worth doing as well.
ORIGINAL: Strato50 Those gearboxes in my opinion are the best on the market, I have 3 sets now and they are TOUGH. Excellent bearings. They look great in your Mato Sherman. Are the metal tracks double-pinned? I've never actually seen a set of the HL metal ones.. I have a Sherman as well and that looks tempting :P
Yes I agree - in my opinion they are for example better than Waltersons gearboxes Sorry my English is not good: what its mean "double pinned"? In those HL Sherman metal tracks each link have one removable and one closed pin

RE: Mato Sherman metal upgrade
Yes I think is it possible to place gearboxes a litle higher but holes in lower hull for drive shafts should be moved too. I was using original Mato Sherman holes in lower hull in addition track support in metal Mato road wheels are a bit higher than in original plastic ones so the efect is bigger - this problem is seen in original Mato Sherman too (but its smaller)

Mato Sherman metal upgrade
Recently Ive upgraded my Mato Sherman with some metal parts ordered from Dominique from www.rctank.de Ive used also an Elmod electronics with Benedini TBS Mini sound with big Visaton speaker. Now the tank is running very smooth and sounding great. - metal Mato wheels upgrade http://www.rctank.de/product_info.php?cPath=123_137&products_id=1520 - HL metal tracks and sprockets with idlers http://www.rctank.de/product_info.php?cPath=23_116&products_id=1976 - HL metal 4:1 "black" gearboxes http://www.rctank.de/product_info.php?cPath=23_116&products_id=1974 Standard HL 4:1 gearboxes was too wide for Mato Sherman hull so I've changed original motors with motors taken from Mato 5:1 metal gearboxes: http://www.rctank.de/product_info.php?cPath=23_53&products_id=672

RE: Sound options for tanks
ORIGINAL: marshall Jeff, The only sound module I have any experience with besides Tamiya's is the Model Sounds Shockwave module in my 1/8 Tiger. Every time I start it up I am tickled at how good it sounds (and how loud).I have 3 of them and am taking delivery of a 4th to replace an excellent Tamiya set-up in my RC Armory King Tiger. This is only my opinion, hope it helps. Paul
Thank You for reply . Is it previously known as Model Solutions? 1. Could You show any demo engine sounds for King Tiger , Tiger I, Panther , T-34? 2. How many sound samples is needed to create - one speed step sound project - two speed step sound project - three .... 3. How the structure of the sound project in this sound card looks like ? (Benedini in atachment) M1 Start M2 Idle M3 Accelerate M4 Moving (modulated max - 255 speed steps) M5 Decelerate M6 Shutdown 4. The serious problem even for the best sound card are very good quality engine sound samples - how its look llike in this card? Have they own tank engine professional recordings (like Tamiya) or its taken from Youtube only?

"Hardware is only half of the game. How the sounds are built and integrated into a total package is the other half." Thanks for reply. I totaly agree with You. For me Benedini sounding better and more natural than Beier and have also better tank engine samples. In the begining I had severeal tanks with Elmod Blaster but later , step by step I changed all of them to Benedini TBS Mini. Only In two tanks Im using Tamiya electronics - Leopard 2A6 and KV-85 (KV-1/KV-2 DMD+MF) - in my opinion two the best Tamiya tank engine sounds /so far/.

"According to Thomas, the Beier system is his biggest competition so you might want to check that out." By the way have You informations how many engine sound samples is used in Beier module ? Benedini usues 6 samples for engine sound: M1 Start M2 Idle M3 Acceleraste M4 Moving M5 Decelerate M6 Shutdown I was listening to some Beier demos availble on their website (like T-34) and sometimes seems that Accelerate and Decelerate samples are not present - or maybe it was demos from very old projects and newer have such samples ? http://www.beier-electronic.de/modellbau/index.php Are sound samples in Beier modules are fully protected like in Benedini or are editable ?

RE: SFX7.0 OR Benedini TBS Mini?
ORIGINAL: yellowshaker WSN, you are using the Elmod with benedini? Do yyou have any video of it?
Yes Im using Elmod with Benedini TBS Mini , but I have no digital camera now . Maybe next week I will have and then will place some videos .... Im usuing the older version of Elmod with 6 channels and ECO with 5 channels. Now better solution is Elmod PRO (but more expensive) because have 6 channels too - the additional sixth channel is needed for recoil gun , flash and gun fire sound - all using one encoder button, in ECO (5 channels) its needed to push encoder button and make stick deflection simultaneously. /In ECO max stick deflection is used for recoil, half deflection is used for gun elevation/ Im usualy using one channel in my reciver (Graupner R700) for moving (it is possible to use two if its needed for more realistic efect) - this channel/2 channels is/are splited with Elmod (runing tank) and with TBS Mini (engine sound) The second additional channel is used for sound selection. In my sender I use my own "push button encoder" recomended in TBS mini manual with four buttons - each button for separate sound - one for engine, next for gun, MG etc. (of course it is possible to use encoder with more buttons) or buy original 12 key encoder from Benedini. The TBS Mini should be configured (using TBS software) and "teached" - all is described in delivered manual in details. RE: SFX7.0 OR Benedini TBS Mini?
I choose definitely Benedini TBS Mini However its using only 8 bit samples but its absolutely enough . The sound is more "integral" /for my ear/ Im using in my tanks TBS Mini with 6W amplifier and Visaton XXL spekers (rctank.de) and with Elmod ECO - sounding great !!! In addition great base of ready tank sound projects delivered for free by Thomas - for example Bovington Tiger , Panther , King Tiger, T34 , T55, T72 , Sherman, , Stuart, M48 and many others. Its very easy to modify existing tbs sound project or create the new one from own sound samples - (for example from Youtube) A time ago I had older SFX6 module for testing but , I returned it and go back to Benedini

RE: Tamiya DMD T-07 and an external amplifier
ORIGINAL: BlackCat_2 ...... Thus, when the supply voltage 7.4 volt and 4 ohm load (2 ohms), we can get a maximum of 6 watts (12 watts), the acoustic power (Subject to the inclusion of BTL amplifier) A further increase in acoustic power is possible only by using special schemes to increase the supply voltage amplifier or extra Batteries If the Tamiya unit amplifier is BTL - to connect an external amplifier in parallel dynamics - it is not entirely correct.
BlackCat_2 and Heavyaslead thank You very much for help and many practice advices !!! BlackCat_2 - understanding Russian language is not a problem for me - a little problem is to write in this language on my PC Thank You for professional lesson about amplifiers Now its clear - Ive made serious mistake in power calculation - mea culpa ! I inspected my DMD T-07 - the audio output is made from one Sanyo LA 4227 6VR1 - 3W power amplifier - see attachment 3W x 2channel (Vcc=9V, R= 3 ohm) - only one channel is used in DMD T-07 For 4 ohm speaker and 7,4 V supply voltage it should be about 1,5W ? (of course if I didnt made mistake) You wrote "we can get a maximum of 6 watts" I think it will be enough for 5W speaker? what is Your opinion? You also wrote " If the Tamiya unit amplifier is BTL - to connect an external amplifier in parallel dynamics - it is not entirely correct." as I understand - LA 4227 is not BTL - so this problem dont exist ??? What about TDA1554 - is 7,2V will be the problem - in data sheet they said that minmal supply voltage is 6V Heavyaslead wrote: "The 13.2 volt power supply is needed to properly bias the transistors. If less than 75% of the voltage is supplied you may get no amplification or very poor performance." Maybe any other sugestions for another amplifier? what type excately is recomended? What is the rules regarding calculation power of the amplifier and speaker? I heard about two version - some people says that speaker power should be 150%-200% of amplifier output power - another says that amplifier power should be greater or equal speaker power? which is correct?

RE: Tamiya DMD T-07 and an external amplifier
Thank You for answer and help Could I use the electronic kit with TDA 1554 ? - using one channel in Stereo BTL configuration - see atached application and technical data one wire from Tamiya T07 speaker output - to the "non inverting input 1" second wire to the ground (signal) Tamiya 4ohm speaker connectet to the TDA 6 and 8 outputs ? Supply voltage 7,2V from tank battery pack Im not an expert - in the table is shown 12 W /13,2V/ so with 7,2 V shouldnt be about 6W ??? I plan to use max 50% of Tamiya DMD T07 volume - It is described on the Tamiya 4 ohm speaker - 5W of power (but what power electrical, accoustic?) - is it true that output power of the amplifier sholuld be less than speaker power (electrical or accoustic) ? how to calculate TDA 1554 output power with Stereo BTL configuration with 7.V supply voltage?

Tamiya DMD T-07 and an external amplifier
I have Tamiya Leopard 2A6 tank with original Tamiya DMD T-07 sound module and 4 ohm speaker output . Id like to amplify a little original Tamiya sound volume. Is it possible and safe (!) to connect to this 4 ohm speaker output (speaker+ and speaker -) to an external amplifier input - supplied from the same 7.2V - and then connect Tamiya 4 ohm speaker to amplifier output?
