RE: Using Chrome With & Without Color (help me build a guide)
buy the spazstix chrome in a spray can..much easier! The preprep spray is the best stuff I have ever used before shooting a color on bare lexan!

RE: Botched BMW M3 GT body :(
I always do all my cuts first, then peel and paint. Doing it that way, you don't have to keep looking for the sharpie on the outside.

RE: Botched BMW M3 GT body :(
yes, you definitely did not use enough liquid masking. Another thing is I read you did the white first? Always go from dark to light whenever you can. Also try doing lighter coats as this may help with your masking not seperating at the cut line as well. Good luck

RE: Dodge Charger SRT8
The hood scoop is from www.oocrcracing.com They come clear and need to be cut out. They also include a template that use as a guide to cut the hole in the body. It can either be shoe goo'd in or small screws can be used. I just used shoe goo on this one.

the wheels are decals, they do look weird in the pics though:D How I finished with such clean results...biggest thing is to take your time. Spray lighter coats vs. heavier ones

RE: Good masking tape?
did you try heating up the vinyl with a hair dryer? I remember doing vinyl for actual cars and there were many times I had to heat it up to get it into tight places.

RE: Good masking tape?
you can use the gree 3m tape, the tan 3m tape, any masking tape really. Just be sure you burnish the edges really good! What kind of vinyl are you using?

RE: Custom bodies?
I have about 4 (edited from 7, 3 are spoken for) of them, liquid masked, ready to paint. Painting them is only a matter of an evening or two. I see you are looking for 1/10th scale. Are you looking for touring cars, trucks, buggies???

What do you have to trade??? There is also a thread over at www.cfxpaintworks.com called Paint Tradez where you can post as well.

RE: Spazstix holographic paint
I think you can also back it with the color of your choice, not just black. However, it will only show up when bright light hits it if you back it with other than black.

RE: Here's a good example of "dusting" your next paintjob!
yep, gives it a nice sparkle! [;)] I do that a lot to give the paint a different color in different lighting conditions.

RE: flat
roughing up the inside will do nothing to create a flat effect. The only thing that it will do is dull out paint's like chrome, or colors backed with chrome. A lot of people rough up the inside to make the paint adhere to the lexan better. The only ways to get the flat effect are to paint the outside or rough up the outside. Even so, roughing up the outside will still have a bit of a shine to it. Good luck
ORIGINAL: silent_echo wow, those rims looked really weird to me until u said dish rim decal, they looked flat so i thought you photoshopped them or something. i didnt know the dodge charger came out in lexan! yours looks great
Yeah they do look very flat, but in person, and from a side shot, they look really cool! I have 2 more of them to paint up. I'm not sure how aerodynamic they are or how they do on the track, but they are fun to paint [:D]

because I just trimmed it on the lines. It's going to go up for sale, so I'll let the person who buys it do all the final trimming to fit their car. :D

RE: Carbon look with the non sliding shelf liner help...
go to walmart, target, sears, etc.. Look for some shelf liner. Then just look at the pattern of the openings. Get on that looks like CF and shoot some silver ( or whatever color you want) through it and back with black, or another color. You can also use mesh drywall tape. Stick it on the body, spray your highlight color, then back with your darker color.

RE: Carbon look with the non sliding shelf liner help...
after you spray the lighter color of the carbon fiber, hit it with a hair dryer for a short bit. This will dry the paint both where it went through to the lexan and on the mesh itself, so you will not have any problems lifting the mesh off. just a tip:)

RE: Need Some Pointers..
for the wavy line you can use your fine line tape as your wavy line guide. Then lay down strips of masking tape to cover one side of the body and cut the excess off at the fine line tape. The fine line tape will give you a reference where to cut the masking tape at. Can you picture what I'm saying? LOL Always wash the body with warm soapy water! I use just a cheap mild dishwashing detergent. You could also get away with using SpazStix Pre-Prep spray as well. With the window masks, just wash your hands really good, dry them off and don't touch anything but the window masks and the body and you'll be fine. Good luck and post pics!

RE: want a black chrome body
try using some spazstix window tint, then hit it with the mirror chrome. Like Maxx said, it's going to be the best with a coat of transparent black first. Post pics when done:)

jon- your spot on with the main color! Good job! and yeah, that was said over at cfx but I completely respect the opinions over there and I take them as good feedback. It's funny because some people love the color combo, others say it doesn't go together too well. But in person it looks sweet!
