Hey guys trying to create one-of-a-kind tumbler
I'm currently in Senior year of high school and in my R&D engineering class we were asked to create a year long project. After many ideas i thought of creating a 1/10 TUMBLER REPLICA from the modern Batman movies (my girlfriend had just made me watch begins). My question to you guys on the forum is how difficult a task like this would be. I will be working with two others that do not have rc knowledge, but are very good with design and design programs i.e AutoCad, Sketchup. I've chosen a picture to help visualize it more as an rc sized vehicle http://www.chickslovethecar.com/images/tumbler/prancinghorse.jpg . The materials I have/ am allowed to use. - 1/10 Losi DT(an old one, with novak brushless setup)* - Typical materials availible in an engineering classroom (what you would find in your garage + unlimited foam and a 3d printer) *I would like not to tear up(drill holes in, cut out of, bend, etc) my DT and would like to be able to reassemble it after the project is done. I understand that this will force me to construct a chassis on my own and have no problem doing that. Main Concerns: -Inverted steering setup. -also suspension because of this. -want to introduce a total of 4 rear wheels to stay true to the movie, would this be too much for the motor to handle(4800 + 5000 2s)? -The only materials i would have to use to construct the chassis from scratch is plastic tubing, about a straw thick and a little less stiff than rc plastic. Thanks for all the help in advance!

RE: The Official Losi Desert Truck Thread!
Sorry if this is a violation of rule but i'm looking to sell my desert truck with losi brushless. There is a slight problem with the esc, but from what i've been told is an easy fix if sent to novak. It's college time so i just need to focus on schoolwork, if anyone is interested please feel free to pm me or check out my ad. Thanks.

As i said, same conditions. Same 2S lipo with same gearing. Everything fits correctly, mesh is set right. Yes lipo cut-off is on but i fully charged the battery when i tested today. Also, full throttle reverse works perfectly.

Novak Havok 2S EXTREME STUTTERING
Hey guys! I have a Losi Desert Truck 1/10 with a Havok 2S system that used to run perfectly. Yesterday, it ran fine, it could even hlod a wheelie from a stop. Now today, under the same conditions, when i full throttle, it stutters like some kind of traction control is kicking in. After a couple seconds once it starts moving it runs fine. The problem only occurs from full throttle, even from a pushed start. Help me out please!
The tc5 is probably better than the sprint we have now, but unless you're going to the track everyday and tuning all the time AND have belt problems OR the slop is really annoying you, you should stick with the sprint.

RE: OFFICIAL HPI Sprint 2 Thread (Sport and Flux)
I think that's the relative amount of turn the left wheel has to the right. It's usually left unchanged and some people have all plastic ones so that they won't have to adjust it if it lossens itself.

Stick packs are great and easier to handle, but if you want to get the carbon fiber upperdeck ever, then you're going to have to get a saddle pack.
Ok, well i don't think the flux was built with an auxillary power plug in the esc. The Havoc has a fan plug on the esc, and the esc would power the fan from the power it is receiving from the car's battery.
ORIGINAL: ph0six zanga254, Thank you for the warm welcome and helpful advise! As per your suggestions, I think I'll stick to the stock motor / esc until I become comfortable with the car and if I become interested in track in the future I'll pick up the 6900. As for the gearing on the stock esc / motor, does the spur / pinion need to be changed out with a stock setup for drifting

RE: OFFICIAL HPI Sprint 2 Thread (Sport and Flux)
Welcome! If you're going to buy an aftermarket brushless motor and are going to drift, then i suggest that you get one of the cheaper sprint 2 drifts(or sprint 2 drift sport like me). You could and probably should gear up because the stock diffs really can't handle anything over 10t, you're just at the borderline. You can either reduce the teeth on the spur gear or increase the number of teeth on the pinion gear, or both! Castle motors are great for non competitive drivers because you will really never need to change motor or escs again, they make really good quality stuff. The 6900 should be great for the track(I have it in my sprint now), but might be too much for drifting unless you have really high gearing. Maybe you should drift on the stock motor since the esc from the castle can also run brushed motors, and save the 6900 for laps. Also, make sure you run controllably the first time you drive so that you have time to get used to the controls. Don't let temptation get the best of you. I personally don't suggest that you mess with springs until you really understand the way a car handles and acts on different surfaces. Whatever car you get should have springs that work well in many conditions. Pretty much all 2 cell lipos will fit in the car and will be perfect for the things you want to do. Remember to understand how dangerous these batteries really are and how much power they can deliver. With a 2s lipo and a 6900 motor, you will be going 45+mph. Always set a cut-off voltage, don't let the lipo battery get over 90 degrees F, etc. FEEL FREE TO ASK MORE QUESTIONS, we're here to help you.
ORIGINAL: alexisgt Hpi 15T Firebolt
whoops misprint by me, the stock pinion is 28 t. Mine came with a firebolt too so you may want to start with a 28 tooth. I have to say though that the sprint 2 drift sport does advertize high spped drifting so if you are going to drift in a small area, then get something smaller, like in the low 20's. Hopefully i didn't get my pinions and spurs confused.
ORIGINAL: cokemann I finally got around to replacing the stock esc with a Traxxas XL5. I'm running the stock motor and gearing and a 7 cell nimh with TRX connector. No more Tamiya connectors. It lays down consistent 25 mph speed runs which is not bad. Motor and esc temps are quite low. Can i go to a bigger pinion or will it be a real dog off the line? It'll barely spin the tires on takeoff on pavement now. Thanks Dean
If the only thing you run it on is pavement then you can get a bigger pinion. maybe up to 3-4 teeth larger?
