Good point GT100. The large scale IC class is for 1/5th based kits but the line between the IC open and the large scale IC class is a bit blured. I'll need to try and define the classes better for next year Looking for 125mph (200kph) for this car Cheers

Latest mod for my CMB RS101 car. 6mm pitch chain from the layshaft to the axle. This should be stronger than the belts I'll be running it at the UK Speed Champs on 22-23 Sept

RE: Insane 1/5 scales with Big Blocks in them!!
After you post I checked the exploded diagram and I thought the middle gear between the pinion and the spur was a single gear. I now know its not so there a re a number of options. I'll see what can be done to the 2 middle gears to increase the speed Cheers

RE: Insane 1/5 scales with Big Blocks in them!!
I see the largest pinion you can get is 49. This brings the speed up to 85mph. You will need tofit a 58 or 60t pinion to get to 100 and I dont think that would fit. best to replace the centre bevel to 1/1. This will give you a lot of gear range. But then you run into clutch problem so a 2 or 3 speed will be needed Cheers

RE: Insane 1/5 scales with Big Blocks in them!!
The gearing is almost stock and the 50cc engine revs lower so lower speed. Arthur is looking at replacing the bevel gear in the centre to up the gearing. The other idea is to replace the idle gear on the drive train to a double gear with large in and low out to increase gearing. The MCD isnt easy to gear up without some serios mods Cheers

Nitro My engine revs to 18,900 but I suggest you will get the most torque around 14,500. my engine weighs 10lbs. wit the car and gearbox etc.. I think everything will be 36lbs. The idea of a large scale drag club sounds great! I'll look at timing gear Cheers

Nitro, you missread my post.. LOL I said welcome to the largescale club. I know you will be shooting for 100mph with your car. A 70cc motor will drop straight in but for top speed you will need a decent 2 speed. I would just enlarge the pulley on the layshaft to increase the gear ratio. Best of luck and keep the pics coming Cheers

RE: Insane 1/5 scales with Big Blocks in them!!
Damn! I linked to page 2 of this forum so thought there wasnt any replies...LOL Anyway.... It will have a custom made 3 speed gearbox. The final drive will be adjustable and I'll shoot for 125-150mph. I'll make my own fibreglass body and I hope to make a streamliner although it wont be so skinny. Nice 100mph run! Looks like it has loads left in it! Welcome to the largescale club Nitro! Let me know what engine you are going to run in it. Good things are said about the MMR 70cc engine Cheers

It will have a 3 speed gearbox and a streamliner type shell The engine weighs 10lbs and the chassis 16lbs. Add another 10 for everything else makes 36lbs or 16kg. Not bad for 18hp! Cheers

We have this chassis (my mate just donated it!!) [image]http://www.fg-modellsport.de/medien/fotos-formel1/F1%20Competition%2008/F1-Comp08-Bild01-800px.jpg[/image] I doubt it will fit so snuggly as the stock engine though. We will probably just take the rear and front units and build a chassis to fit Cheers

RE: Nasty 1/10 scale on-road cars using .21 or larger engines....come inside
Yeah the tyres were taller. he has other gearing on order so that will increase the speed also. He had a gearbox failure but think he has parts. I was so impressed with this that I got myself a BZM motor. Its the same as Rinos full moded with 16hp and 19,000 rpm. I havent seen the video yet but from previous runs I dont think he is hitting peak revs at all! What he needs to do now is stand on something to increase line of site and radio range. Both me and Nic know this is the way to increase speed. After that the tyres will start to give up. Anyway I have thrown the guantlet down for first one of us to reach 300kph! I have some catching up to do as I havent received the motor yet or bought a chassis...LOL
