RE: Aerowork Extra 260 DOA what do I do?
Well, the new plane is officially on its way off to a bad start. UPS already rescheduled it to be delivered 9/15/08 instead of this friday[:@] I wish UPS would get their bearings together.. they damaged the plane twice and are making me wait another 3 days for something that should have been here 2-3 weeks ago..

RE: Aerowork Extra 260 DOA what do I do?
Well, I got a phone call and was told it shipped and I got a tracking number. Everyone was friendly, but Stephanie was the one who gave me a hard time. I still dont understand why she told me to hold on to the damaged plane and that she was going to ship one out that day. She may have forgot or was trying to get me to keep the damaged plane, waiting for an imaginary one to come. Doesnt matter now.. So now its really closer to being resolved. Ill see next week when I get the plane. If its in good condition, I might go back to AW in the future.

RE: Aerowork Extra 260 DOA what do I do?
I just got a phone call from Mark at AW. They said they have no record what so ever that I even contacted AW about the damage!!! They know it was delivered and thats all! They supposedly sent a new plane today, and now they WANT the damaged plane back. So now I am out almost a month of time, cant return the plane or I get stiffed with a 15% restocking fee + $20 in shipping. Stephani B. said that she was going to ship a new plane on 8/27/08 and never did. She had me CALL her instead of emailing me to tell me that she was shipping it. She also said that I keep the damaged plane! I dont know about you guys but Stephani did NOT take care of me. She told me to wait for an airplane that was never shipped, did not keep a record that I even contacted them, and she told me to keep the damaged plane. Its sure a good thing that I did not open the plane or try to mess with it. Sounds like she was trying to stiff me.

Well, it has been well over enough time for them to send me a new plane... and no plane yet! no UPS phone call about the other plane either. Just called AW and the lady that handled me last time was not there and some guy said he would leave a message and call back later. [:@][:@][:@][:@]
You may want to consider putting some money in that empty bank account and getting a cell phone contract that doesn't have you counting minutes first. The second one isn't that important, but if you think your electric 260 is expensive you got a big wake-up call coming if you go "giant scale" - empty bank accounts don't support the giant scale addiction in the least. Best of luck...
No need to consider me ignorant of the price. I already have a chip hyde double vision, 8417's all around except on the rudder. I just need an engine.. Thinking of a used DL-50 or something. Flying season is over ...going to save up my pennies and nickles for one in a few months. The Extra 260 is expensive considering I could have a larger plane for a little more money.. I also rarely use the phone, only for local calls. I had to use my parents cell, and they didnt have that many minutes. Any ways.. Ill wait till I get my new 260, then notify AW of its condition and ask what to do with the other 260. Its bashed to the point where I would have to rip all covering off, rebuild the wing, then trace the parts on to new balsa and build a new one.

RE: Aerowork Extra 260 DOA what do I do?
PHEW I sent several pictures of the plane to AW, and they said they are going to ship me a NEW plane today! I asked if I should ship the damaged plane back, and she said UPS will contact me. I forgot to ask when UPS will contact me for the plane. And I forgot to ask if UPS does not contact me, will I be charged for the new plane. Im flat out of cell minutes so I cant ask right now..doh! Its UPS so I dont think they will be calling for another few weeks.[8|] So far AW has been very kind and helpful. I am moving into giant scale and I think I know a company that has some nice planes.[;)] Now I see why UPS wanted to take the plane back both times. The first time the guy offered to take it back and was nice. The second time, he pretty much begged for me to give it to him and let UPS take care of it.

RE: Aerowork Extra 260 DOA what do I do?
I edited my first post. UPS came back and gave me the package, Rocco called and I took pictures and sent them to AW so I am just waiting now. I was worried that the package would get to AW and they would refuse it or something, I am glad that the lady called UPS and had them redeliver it. Kinda mad that I might have to pay S&H to send the thing back, I havnt opened any of the bags, just the main box which was not taped shut. (The box that the plane is, not the outer brown box) It looks like just the wing is damaged, I hope they send a new wing atleast. The parts are just bagged in plastic. No packing peanuts, nothing else. Just a double box and some plastic bags. Its a big PITA , I dont have long distance on my home phone and its very costly to use a cellphone.

Aerowork Extra 260 DOA what do I do?
Hey guys, Time is real critical on this one. My buddy recommended that I order from AEROWORKS for their good prices and products. I just got the little electric Extra 260 in the mail via UPS and the brown outer box was bashed up so I had the UPS guy witness me open it. Upon opening the box, the inner white box was obviously damaged, and then I opened the box (no tape) and there was no padding in the box. The wing was smashed, and the covering ripped. I told the UPS guy I refuse to accept and he took it away, wrote "EXCEPTION" on the tracking site, and gave me a proof of damage note. I then called AEROWORKS and got a lady on the phone who said I should not have returned it, and that I should have taken pictures. Their website mentions NOTHING about this. It was too late, and was running out of cell phone minutes, so the lady said she would call UPS to tell them to send it back to my house and then she would call me back. The lady never called back, and I went to town. EDIT: Rocco called at 6 and told me to send pictures of the damage to him. I have yet to get a response but it is a time zone shift so I wont chastize him on that. I only have a few days to get this worked out. What do you guys recommend I do? This is my first time ordering from here, and if I send it back, I will loose $25 out of $100 (15% restocking fee + shipping) Plus I will be out of an airplane. If I order a new one and send this one back (like most companies do) my bank will over draft since I dont have the $$ to buy a new one! If I do what the lady said, she said it will take up to 2 weeks to 2 months to get a replacement.

OS 1.20 FS runs erratic
Hey guys, I have an OS 1.20 FS III 4 stroke that is running erratic. I do not know how old it is or how many flights it has had, I bought it used in a plane a year ago. At first it over heated a little, it would die off at full power and sounded like it had too much loading with the original 16x8APC prop. I replaced it with a 16x4 wide APC and it behaved much better. After about 1 gallon it started acting a little erratic. It dies off at wide open again and needs to be tuned every few days (+- 1 or 2 clicks on the carb) The glow plug is new, the motor starts with a chicken stick on the first flick every time, and I get a nice exhaust trail. I have been using 15% Morgan cool power helicopter fuel because it has a higher amount of oil than the other cheap gas that my LHS sells, my other option is to drive far for some 4 stroke airplane fuel that might not work. I used 30% 2&4 stroke byron fuel and it ran real erratic.Should I tach it? Or am I just using the wrong propeller? I fly aerobatic and 3D so I am keeping that pitch low but the diameter high..the OS site says it will swing a lot of props from like 13x11 to 16x8 but I just want to make sure about this. Could my valves be off? I looked at the OS site and they said from .0015 to .004 which seems pretty dramatic..Is it .0015 for one side and .004 for the other or something? If anyone could give me some help with this engine, it would be much appreciated!

RE: Can I use this esc?
The previous owner says the rods hold up well. They are solid steel and then i have aluminum tubing which is lighter but sofeter. I need to cool the ESC and the motor. The motor has good airflow around is caseing and through the inside but it is an airplane motor, ment to fly, ment for air to pass through it. The case is carbon fiber which does not conduct heat well. I may need to buy a new motor, perferable aluminum in the 15-20 amp range. But I would have to be able to use it in something else if needed. I put a second coat of JB weld over the rear shock tower and the front bar I installed. I drilled several holes in the front bumper (looks like a shovel instead of a bumper) Then I put more JB on the wheel. I am waiting for this coat to dry and then I need to make a pin that will hold the drive pinion better. That means : drill existing hole to be larger and then place a copper peice in and then I will use a screw or something. I put more paint on the body.. the black plastic is to dark for the red though. I will paint it silver then red when I get a chance. I want to make sure it holds up before I buy that fan, I will use a make shift fan for now.

RE: Can I use this esc?
I have already soldered the wires directly to the motor to reduce resistance. I cant use the stock ESC because it, and the rx are all on the same board, somewhere. The only thing I have on hand is a phoenix 10 amp controller which has soft start and soft break for fradgile airplane gear boxes. My problems is heat. I need to find away to cool it. I was going to use pop can alumimum but the heli guys says there is not enough mass and air flow to cool it. (It works on parkflyers and small electric helis) This copper tubing I got right now fits perfectly over the one gear shaft. I am going to drill out the JB weld job I did and then seat that inthere and JB over it. I only put JB on it so I could drill the hole out and have material there. After I get that hole cured, I will do a paint job then reprogram my ESC then I will try it. I want to make sure it works before I pour money for a new ESC into this. I also happened to get 1/16 aluminum tubeing. Very thin stuff and it fits in the holes and everything for the stock push rod. Only thing is, it is hollow. It feel stronger and lighter though. I might make some push rods with this. There are some pictures of how I used the JB weld. I reinforced the hex hubs, the wing ( filled in some holes from a dremel accident) I repaired a wheel and theres the one half of the gear box. The only reasons why I am using this frame is because I got it for free, looks decent, and it has enough room to work in with the frames in the right place. I have had other rc cars but they definatly could not have handeled this. I wanted something near hobby quality but not quite. And I didnt want a car that you can walk out of walmart with for $20. (This was bought in a yard sell a few years ago) What I mean by almost hobby quality is that it usesd rubber wheels instead of solid plastic, it used a servo and a motor with an ESC,and the crystal was removeable. It isnt there yet because it uses all plastic no bearing the shocks are cheap and the body is still 2-3 mm thick plastic.

RE: Can I use this esc?
Saying something is crap and will not work is basicly saying "stupid" Now just so you know, I have reinforced the axle holes with JB weld untill I can find some bearing the right size. The purpose of the project was to make it work, not buy something that will perform better. (I already have something that perform much better) Also with the damaged tranny, I was able to get the wheels w/o loading in to WOT. Now about the servo. The car stock came WITH a servo. Not the best servo but it is the same size as standard servos now days, and yes it is fully porportional. My standard servo I have laying around, all it needs is the tabs to be trimmed off and a wheel horn and that will be a PERFECT fit. Next thing. Obviously you do not know much about the phoenix 10 and a mini ac motor and the 11.1 volt lipo I am putting in. These all ARE a part of an airplanes power system. The reason WHY I want to use this is because its in the right range. You have not even seen the car or know anything about its diamentions. The gears are all metal and the diff is plastic but is actually pretty strong. So untill I find a way to post pictures of this size (2 mb nearly) do us all a favor and PLEASE do not comment. It is users like you, who are not helping one bit, bring this forum down. Like I said before..I am getting better help on a gas helicopter forum! Atleast they know what they are talking about. I have mounted the motor and the gear mesh, of course is great since I used the stock motor can as a mount. What I am going to do next is reinforce all the holes with JB weld then drill out some and put a screw in for support untill I find a bearing set that will work. I bought some copper tubeing (Because it looks cool) and I am going to reinforce the shock towers with that. Next thing I will do is lay 1/16 aluminum tubing over some areas that may need protection. I am also going to try n' make new push rods with 1/16th aluminum just for the heck of it. I am nearly done, I just need to patch a hole in the rim and paint all four from bright orange to silver. I have begun painting the body all black with a carbon fiber bed and painted the bars that hold the wing up, sliver (looks like real metal and carbon!)

RE: Can I use this esc?
How would I do that? Do I need a whatmeter (I think thats the name of the product) So far everything is going smooth. The old motors can makes a PERFECT mount for the new motor, I just took a dremel and the grinder wheel and opened it up a bit. How would I check the current on a brushless motor? Since theres 3 wires, I dont know which one to tap into. I got a multimeter though so point me where to go. The previous owner said this thing boogied on a freshly charged battery. He compaired it to my revo and said it would go roughly 20-25 I am probably going to break out with the fiberglass and make my self a new, lighter body since the current is like 5 ounces- what you would expect from a department store car. As for quality, I say its a step higher than walmart rc cars but a step down from hobby level. I say its higher that walmart grade since it uses servos and has a removable crystal. Just to let you all know, before I stratched out the nikko pat p emblem on the bottem, the model was made in 1998 which is about 7 years, not 10. Next project is to restore my 10 year old RC tyco hover craft.

RE: Can I use this esc?
I cant give you a direct link but here is what I got on it: Castle Creation Heli Brushless Speed Controllers All Micro Helis The Phoenix family of Brushless ESCs are known to be economical high quality speed controllers and are excellent choice for high output applications such as R/C Helis. - Battery Eliminator Circuit (BEC): eliminates receiver battery - Safe "Power On" - Low torque "Soft Start": protects gear boxes and belt drives from shock - Simple setup: no complicated switches or wiring - Tough surface mount construction - Smooth reverse exponential throttle - Audible Arming Signal - Self-calibrating endpoints: maximizes usable stick travel - Auto Motor cut-off with reset - Auto shut-down when signal is lost - Microprocessor Controlled I have took the motor apart and used the caseing to make a mount for my new motor. Fits like a charm! Bad part is the motors axle snaped and half of it is inside the pinion- which is not replaceable. I will heat it up tommorow then press it out though. Other than that, a few daps of JB weld here and there, I should have the model running in no time. I also need to find out how I should mount the front wheels. If I mount them normaly I will get about 1 inch offset and the full range of steering. But If I flip them around so the hub points the other way, I can have 0 offset but my steering will be limited. I need to find which is better. As for JK, dude just stop posting in this thread please. You bring RCU a bad name. Unless you plan to help then please do RCU, me and your self a favor and not reply to this thread. And just for your information, I own a truck already. The point was to rebuild some thing- not buy a new one. Have you ever seen vintage cars and hot rods? Sorry but you need to mature a little.

RE: Can I use this esc?
I said the electronics were crap. the actuall chassie is in good condition although it has no bearings, shocks are simple springs, unitrack rear suspention, the front suspention has a single arm on each side mounted to a bar and the arm spins up and down on that, the diff and whole drive system is plastic. I do own an other truck but I love fixing old things up. The reason why I want to fix it up is because it is VERY small and would be a fun project. And of course it would impress the person that gave it to me. And besides it was free![:D] If it doesnt work out, I can use the power system in my airplanes. It is always good to have extra parts laying around. Also I do not feel like buying a new rc car just to tear down and rebuild. To put that simple, its MY car and MY (parents) money and not your business. Back to my question, is there a difference between RC car and RC aircraft ESCs? And with a phoenix 10 amp on a mini ac 1215/16 motor with a 11.1 volt 1200 mah lipo spining 2.5wide by 5 inch diameter wheels, and a 1:4 to 1:7.2 or 1:4 to 1:6.526 gear ratio, will this make heat a problem? The OLD system was a speed 300 size brushed motor with an unknown esc which is hard wired into a circuit board along with the servo controller and RX which was spinning smaller but unknown size wheels, and a powered by a 8cell nimh pack. (9.6 volts) The guy that gave it to me SUPER GLUED new wheels next to the old rim trying to increase the wheel base. He didnt tell me what happened after that but I suspect the larger wheels made the motor break its mount and tore the hole that holds a gear inhalf, making it strip out when you go in reverse. He also had the wheels glued like that on the front which made a 2inch offset in the steering making the servo for steering, lose control and put a lot of loading on it.

He
Hello I just got my first plane, a graunpner terry. It has the speed 400 w/ controler and the 6 cell 500ar pack and the 6x3 prop. I chose JR241 servos and a R610 RX. I did every thing the plans say but I do not under stand the CG. It just has an arrow pointing to the top and bottem. I think it points to the screws that hold the wing and that would be the center. (The screws would hold all the weight right?) But I made a CG balence with a phone book and two coat hangers and it LOOKS like the CG is about 1inch forward of the screws. I wasnt sure if I should cut the spruce stiffener ..so I did and glued it back to have something to mount my RX to. The thing that puzzles me is that I got the battery as far as it can go. Does this seem right? About how far back should my cg be? (measureing along the mold lines on the side from the nose.) If not I will flip the RX vertical and move it as far back as I can. If thats not enough could I add a 1 ounce fishing sinker ? And how large should my flying feild be for my first few flights? And please do not say "a fairly large feild" I am not sure of how big yout "fairly" is. I have a 2 acre back yard with a hill in the center and its surrounded by trees. Would this be enough? My last question, how SLOW can it go? I am not worryed about speed at all. I just want to float around.

Makeing my first plane..
Alright I have built 1 other plane and I have never flowen a real kit or arf plane. (Im poor) I have a 3 cell lipo a CHEAP I mean C-H-E-A-P-O ducted fan 2 micro servos a radio and an ESC. The plane I built works fine as an unpowered glider but once I added my equipment I ended up with a broken wing. (Snapped off inflight..litteraly) and a bug in my eye. My ducted fan is only 2inchs wide with one of those toy car motors that are rectangular. Theres 3 blade but they are 1x1 cm. I am not asking for plans, I just want a few pointers to get a simple airplane that works. HopefullyI can save a few bucks and buy a real ducted fan. (I chose ducts because theres no props to break and its finger safe) My old plane was 50inchs long and was 36 wide. The wing was 9 inchs long and about an inch tall. The wings leading edge was located 36inchs from the back of the elevator. The elevator was 18 x4 inchs and there are two 4x5 inch rudders on the sides. (Looks like an A-10) the elevator was a flat bass wood fin. The alierons had 1 micro servo and they were the lenght of the wing by 1inch. Since im a poor man I used window covering and clear plastic tape to cover my wings. I had to add about a half pound of wood the to the front to give it enough momentum. (it fliped head over tail before) I do not think my duct was strong enough and when I tossed it down the hill it would not pull up for crap. It got stuck about 10 inchs deep in mud. Sorry for any misspells. I currently have a bug floating in my eye. Please help me!

RE: Home made airplanes?
I have no idea on what you just said.[:D] I was thinking about makeing a 36 inch wide wing and have it 9 inchs long and the highest part of the wing would be 3/4 inch high and that peak would be 1 inch back. The id put rips about 3 inchs apart. The lenght of the plane would be 36 and the elevator would be a rectangle 10x5 inchs with two 6x5 rectangles at the ends for rudders. I actually built that design before and it worked for the most part. It seemed to have to much drag when I was just tossing the plane with out any load. I bet if I added an engine it would have flown. The reason why I made this look like I never built it before was because the 2nd flight..it was a cold and non windy dusk..I threw the plane..went 10ft...up a foot..10 ft down a hill.... nose first...the 1/4 x 1/4 stick i used as a ..uh well back bone to say the least was snaped in half. This was only a free thow model though designed to carry a motor and stuff. I think if it had weight and thrust it would of worked..I still got it though. It would be a pain to fix since I used hot glue through out the plane. I could always use duct tape.[:D]

Home made airplanes?
Hello! I am not new to flying models how ever I am new to airplanes. I never built flew or even owned one. Call me crazy but I perfer broke when I say I want you guys to help me build my own model! Heres what I got to work with. I got covering, wood, push rods and some sytro foam and packageing foam in boards. For power I got: 2 micro servos an aircraft radio a micro RX 1 Heli style esc a 11.1v 3 cell lipo battery and a ducted fan. I do have a good idea of whats bad and whats wrong but I am not sure if this ducted fan is strong enough. It does carry my hover craft with good power. I can not give you a part number because I riped it out of an airhogs model. The ducted fan is about 2.5- 2 inchs wide and there are 3 1x1cm blades on a 280 size motor. (I think 280, its flat with rounded sides) I can not give you an estimate on thrsut or RPM but it was running on 7.2 volts and I am useing 11.1 now. But I rarely got to max thottle since the little thing makes so much noise. (I am useing it on a hover craft)1/2 is good most the time at holding all my radio equipment 2 inchs off the ground. Now I want some thing slow but will fly for sure since I am not sure about the thrust from my fan. Can any one give me rule of thumbs about this? I do not want to buy an airplane because I am broke. And I would rather build one.

RE: Is the revo really that great?
Hello. I am new to this. I think the Revo is worth an extra $200 it seems that good. I seen a flame/rant about the revo being a .15 and every one else is a .21 I am not sure if this is true or not but .6 displacement doesnt seem like much compaired to the weight:power ratio. Think about it a .21 needs larger or metal parts. Like metal drive shafts or gears. I think the Revo is worth the investment. Seems durable as hell. And the new suspention seems real good. The only thing I do not like is that you have to pinch the fuel line to turn it off. That means you have to remove the body or install some kind of valve. I say its worth it. Whats so great about the S maxx any ways? They are based on a 6 year old design right?
